gray smoke out of 2000 laredo

Every now n then when I'm at a stop then accelerate, my car smokes. Can anybody help me out as to what is causing this?

gigi_boy_156 05-23-2013 12:17 AM

When the smoke got a touch of white... then it's water from the cooling system. take care!

bigdaddy 05-23-2013 12:54 AM

What can I do to fix this?

Does it smoke with a hot engine, or only when cold?
White smoke from a hot engine could mean a coolant leak from a head gasket.
Did you check the coolant level? Check it with engine cold in the overflow reservoir, but also check if the radiator is full.
More blueish smoke normally comes from burning oil.

The resovoir is always full as Well as radiator. It smokes sometimes when I start it hot or cold. Also when I'm at drive thru have foot on brake it smokes a little but not while I'm driving.

Is it using oil? Could be worn valve stem seals.

bigdaddy 06-08-2013 05:52 PM

Is that a easy fix? Or is that expensive?

The I6 will be cheaper then the V8, but no idea on prices. Did the seals on my V8 and it was quite a job. How much oil is it using now? I postponed mine until it was using 2 lts per 1000 km.

Not really too bad on oil actually

I would not worry too much for now. If it gets worse you can always decide to do something about it.

A stuck open PCV valve could also increase the oil consumption. Which engine?

bigdaddy 06-08-2013 07:02 PM

V8 and I just recently replaced pcv valve
