2014 grand cherokee body molding

I originally posted this in another forum. I think that it should have been here. sorry for the redundancy.
There was a rather long thread about the body moldings (2013 chrome vs 2014 none) regarding appearance, protection ect. I personally like the looks of my 2014 without a molding, but there was so much of the body crease exposed that I was concerned about parking lot dings. I finally decided on what I thought was a reasonable compromise between looks and function and wanted to put it out here. I bought 5/8" x 14' of a good quality flat black molding that matched the wheel wells and rocker panels for under $20. The space between the crease and the letters is about 1", so I carefully placed the molding about halfway between. I'm going to try to post a couple of pics. It worked for me. Not very noticeable, but a little buffer from the door swingers

Looks good on the black! I have a granite and it would have been a bit too noticeable for my taste. So after getting a ding not even a week after buying it, I took off the letters and bought the chrome strips.

Granite is beautiful too, I kept going back and forth. but i got the best deal on the black one.

I really like that. What was the moulding you used and how do you get a finished look on the cut ends?

This is what I used
Cowles T3402C Black European Body Molding : Amazon.com : Automotive
It's nice polyurethane stuff. The color and texture are consistent right through so that when you cut it, the cut end looks the same as the rest. I cut it to length (front door 41.5 " starting 3/4" from front edge of door. Rear door 22.5" again starting 3/4" from leading edge of door. Once it was on very securely, using a new razor blade,I trimmed the front edge of both moldings on maybe a 20-30o angle towards the front and made sure the back ends were perfectly squared off. This stuff trims very nicely, almost self healing.
put some blue tape right up against the edge that you're trimming to protect the paint if you slip with the blade. Once it weathers in a little, you'll never know it was a cut edge.
I hung mine about 1/4" below the body line, so that the overall width from the body line to the bottom of the letters is about the width of the 2013 chrome molding.

Wondering how this would look on Max Steel...hmmm. I also hate the look of the chrome strips on my 2013, but do appreciate the functionality of them. Love the fact that I have zero door dings after 8 months of owning. Might just have to start being that guy parked in the far end of the parking lot from now on!

That's awsome Thanks Stevm65, great job! I am really considering this for I do dread the door dings from careless people and there are allot of those here at my work, i been getting lucky but I think it is a matter of time. How rigid is the body moulding you used? Also did you use any special tools ot get it on so straight?

Thanks, it's kind of soft and flexible, so the best thing is to measure from the ground up and use blue tape to get a level line. then just follow the tape with the molding. take your time. therere also some utube vids showing how to do it.

Looks good.

I have a 2014 in White and I am also searching for ideas on what to add for a door molding. Unfortunately, black molding wont look good on mine because all the trim is painted white.
