Replaced lt frnt cv axle and hun bearing but...
I was getting a humming noise that sounded like it was coming from the lt front when i did a look underneath i found a torn lt frnt cv axle with grease all over the place. Today I replaced it with a reman cv axle and changed the hub/bearing with a timkin. Took it for a test drive and all was good. Went back to the auto parts store to return the core and while driving in the parking lot in between the cars i could hear the humming again. doesnt change while turning left or write and seems to get louder as you go faster. Could this be a bad front driveshaft? Its a 01 v8 qtII i forgot to get new fluid for the diff so i will be changing it next weekend.

Can be propeller shaft joint, front differential or T-case. You can remove the front propeller shaft ( 6 bolts each side, but mark the shaft with the receptacles to mount it back in the same position lateron) and see/hear if that makes any difference. At the same time you can examine both propeller shaft joints for play and/or rough points when moving them.
Check the front diff fluid for eventual metal glinsters (from one of the bearings) and when the diff cover is removed check the ring and pinion gear for wear. Also the magnet will hold metal particles and can give a clue what is going on.
Also check the T-case fluid level and when not changed lately, put some fresh fluid in there (the NV 247 T-case needs "special" mopar fluid, which is Mobil 424 fluid.)

Re: Replaced lt frnt cv axle and hun bearing but...
Thanks for the replies i will check all that out this weekend. Just to add i can only hear the noise at speeds under 20mph on a quiet road or in a parking lot echoing off cars. It sounds like a bearing humming noise as i go faster the noise follows it as well. But once i go over 20-25mph it seems to blend in or disappear.
