Pioneer AVHP 1400 DVD Double din head unit

Hey guys I just purchased a double din Pioneer AVHP 1400 DVD head unit. I have two questions hoping you guys can help me out. I have a 2000 Jeep grand Cherokee WJ limited. To start just putting the head unit up to the Stock unit, looks like the pioneer is square at all four corners compared to the stock rounded off. I'm told it will fit but I'm worried about it fitting around the plastic stock space Where the original unit is. Has anyone installed a complete square double din head unit and a 99-04 WJ. Does aftermarket plastic housing need to be purchased? Or can you shave off the stock plastic At the corners,to make it fit?

Secondly, does anyone know of a Certain wiring harness that can be purchased so that my steering wheel volume control buttons still work, along with the 10 disc CD changer, And Stock amplifier?

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you all and happy Memorial day!

Well after reading a lot of your posts prior, looks like the 2000 grand Cherokee is not a double din after all, correct? Don't understand why the size of the stock unit is almost the same as the pioneer double din. Although I have not taken the stock unit out to see what the back looks like, am I wrong in thinking that the jeep is a double din and it's just the outside plastic basil that gives problems fitting? Or is it the entire entry of a double din?

4.7 Lineburg,

The WJ Jeep has a factory 1.5 DIN stereo. Fitting a Double DIN is a real challenge and difficult to do. Nearly all of the plastic dash material in the OEM radio area needs to be removed. If you decide to mount the 2-DIN stereo face nearly vertical (in the dash), it is easier to install. If you prefer to have a slight upward angle to it, it is much more difficult, because the 2-DIN will sit squarely atop the HVAC ducts beneath it...

It is possible but there is alot of cutting you need to do in order for the double din to fit.http://imageshack.us/a/img811/7894/imagebdrd.jpg

Yeah got mine put in i used my old pioneer wiring harness, still going to get one for my head unit and a bypass switch. I shall take some progress pics and get them up here so you have some other examples to look at. I made my own brackets and new surround piece for the double din
