Dealer Says My Summit May Be Sent Back to JNAP for Re-Inspection ?!

For the past month I have been anxiously waiting for my new Summit and Tracking it's status from JNAP to New Jersey. Estimated delivery was showing 5/24 and most recent tracking from last week shows:

Unloaded From Railcar 05/21/2013 08:32 PM EDT Twin Oaks, PA

After seeing it get off the train last Tuesday 5/21 and with a estimated delivery date of 5/24 I was planning to go pick it up this week before the end of May !!

BUT today I talked to my Dealer and he said JNAP has put a "HOLD" on the delivery and requested my Jeep remain at the Pennsylvania Rail Yard pending "Further Inspection" by the plant due to a "Pending Quality Issue" that needs to be re-checked on a certain production run !!

He said Jeep is checking into this issue to determine how many Jeeps may be affected and the best way to re-inspect all of them as they are all over the Country. The "quick option" is having a QC Tech fly in to this Rail Yard to inspect the Jeep where it sits now, but the "long option" is having it SENT BACK BY TRAIN to JNAP for re-inspection which could take Several WEEKS for the roundtrip !!

Obviously I have No Way to confirm any of this and have no idea what the issue may be, I can only go by what the Dealer told me today. I'm very disappointed and frustrated - but at the same time I want my Jeep to be Right the First Time !! :(

Has anybody ever heard of this happening ?

Any suggestions on how I can check the current status and what the problem may be ?

Thanks,
Tom

Your a premium member, you could ask milous on one of the tracking threads.

Agree with Cold Case... also if this is true a stop delivery will happen soon. Unusual they would recall it back to plant?

I've never heard of that happening, but I think I would be feeling the same exact way you do. Weird.

Sounds like you should consider asking for some compensation?

Huh?? Compensation for what? He does not own the property yet. The sales order protects both parties on price, desired equipment (vehicle) and anticipated delivery date. Failure by either party is limited to whatever consideration (deposit) was tendered at mutual agreement.

I know you're eager to get your vehicle. Who wouldn't be. But you have to view this as a good thing. Why?

It means Chrysler found something so serious in these vehicles (perhaps even relating to issues that some of us have experienced and wouldn't wish on our worst enemy) that it wants to make sure every one in transit is checked for something.

This shows their commitment to quality control.

Hopefully yours won't be back on a train, but better you get a KNOWN solid one than take a chance with one on the dealer lot that may or may not have been checked for whatever issue they're trying to fix.

Good luck!!

I checked with Chevy, Marlon and Milous and they don't know of any pending quality issues at JNAP that would warrant this action, so it may not be a production issue.

Now wondering if there was an issue with some type of "damage in transit" and they are first pointing fingers for who is responsible, then they will decide if it can be repaired on site or if it needs to go back.

I called the Chrysler customer service number this morning and she had all of the same tracking info that Milous provides - but then she checked another system that shows a rescheduled delivery date to Dealer of 6/6/2013 - so not sure what that means?

Tough enough waiting for your Jeep when you have tracking info and a delivery date, but much worse not knowing what's going on !!

Ugh. How irritating.

Well, SOMEONE must know what is going on because SOMEONE put this hold on your car. But I agree, the worst part is not knowing.

Perhaps it's just a matter of waiting for the information to filter down to someone who can tell you...

I guess the good news is that hopefully a week from today the dealer will have your Jeep!

Maybe it was the same information because you were actually speaking to Milous... LOL

If it got damaged in transit, that would do nothing but piss me off. Ask bill_de...

Especially with how good it was looking at 8:50AM on 5/17! I even sat in it.
