04 jeep grand cherokee security won't let me start jeep with spare key
My jeep is at the shop being repaired from an accident. When I bought the jeep used. I only got (I'm assuming) the spare key not the master key. Now there saying it won't start because of a security lockout. What are my options?
Re: 04 jeep grand cherokee security won't let me start jeep with spare key
There is in fact not a master key, both keys which normally come with the jeep are the same. Does the jeep not start anymore after the accident?
The key is of the transponder type and it is communicating with the SKIS system (Sentry Key Immobilizer System) via a loop antenna which is mounted around the ignition switch. Can it be that the antenna has moved due to the accident (rapid deceleration)? When the SKIS system doesn´t see a valid key, it will not send an ok signal to the PCM and the engine will start but shut down in a few seconds.
If the antenna is still in place, then you maybe need a new key. A new key has to be cut the same as your previous key, but the SKIS system also has to be programmed to recognize the new key.
The key worked fine until they unplugged the battery to work on the jeep. Went to pull in the paint booth and nothing. So the accident did not mess the jeep up unless in pulling the parts off they did something. Is there a chance that in unplugging the battery that the sensor forgot the key code. I'm just throwing ideas out cause I don't have a clue. And I'm assuming that a dealer is about the only one who can program a key and would need the vehicle there to program it. That would be interesting seeing how the jeep is in about twenty pieces. Thanks for the reply
