Removed chrome side strips

I was looking at my jeep and decided to remove the chrome side strips, I cleaned the residue off and then washed it, I think that it looks a lot better without the strips imo. Im going to put the grand cherokee lettering on the side like the srt and 14's, i already got one side coming, i just need to find the lettering for the other side reasonably priced:thumbsup: I kinda like the blacked out look. What do you all think?

I've got my Jeep in the sun right now to heat up the side chrome. I'm going to take the chrome strips off right now. Mine will look just like yours. I already have the GRAND CHEROKEE left & right letters like the 2013 WK2 SRT; bought them at the old cheaper price right when they tripled in price. Are your wheels the Overland Summit polished kind? I have the 20 Overland Satin Carbon wheels. Looks great! You might want to clean the rust off your rotors though.

Yep, heating them up helps get them off easier, be sure to use a heavier grade fishing line, all i had was the thin line and it kept breaking, but i had enough to get the job done, oh and you dont want to use any adhesive remover, it will make a huge mess, you need to rub off the leftover tape with your fingers, its not too hard but you may have sore fingers when your done.lol:lol:

Yes, those are overland summit wheels, I got both wheels and tires from the mopar catalog. I just washed it so that's why there is rust on the rotors. good luck on your trim removal.

I'm using Fireline. It won't break. I'm going to wrap each end of the Fireline around pieces of wood. Then I'm using gloves and a rubber jar lid remover thing to remove the adhesive. Thanks for the advice on not using adhesive remover.

I was wrong, the line broke a few times. Although 20 lb test capable Fireline, it was/is old and frayed line. Chrome sides strips are all off and undamaged. Got the adhesive off of one side, just little marks from the edges of the adhesive remain. Still have to remove the adhesive from the other side. I have a blister on one finger. Used a quick short motion with my index and middle fingers from an angle from top to get the top edge of the adhesive to curl; that seemed to work best. Right at the end I decided to use a plastic puddy-knife with the rubber jar lid remover thing wrapped around it; that should save my fingers and/or thumb from any more blisters or pain. Not sure what to think, it's pretty bare now without the chrome; I'll definitely be putting the letters on, just not today. Back to work I go...

You got them off without damage and that that's what counts:thumbsup: , i got a couple blisters on both of my thumbs:mad: removing that adhesive but it sure was better than using the adhesive remover which would make it 10x harder with a mess. I too think it looks good without the chrome, but i agree it does need the letters to break it up a bit.
Ive got the letters for one side, now i just got to find letters for the other. be sure to post a pic when your done..

Done. I only have a flip cell phone camera (until I can borrow a camera), and it's not too good and a pain to transfer the little card to the p.c., etc. but I will get pics. I have a slight blister on my middle finger of one hand and on my index finger of the other. Goo gone is worthless to get the narrow lines of residue off, I used lighter fluid, it did decent. Then I clay barred and washed the Jeep. It was in Off Road 1 height and kind of dirty when I first saw it without the chrome and without the adhesive. All cleaned up and lowered to park mode it looks great! I'm just not used to seeing it in Off Road 1 height and that was a big change to the appearance seeing those chrome side strips gone for the first time. Happy with the result now. Tomorrow I'm going to polish/seal the paint where the chrome strips were and then sooner or later put the letters on.

gc4x4, what year letters did you get, 2014 or 2012/13? I have the 2012/13 letters, I like the font of the 2012/13 letters a little more than the new 2014 letters.

I would like to do this too, but I keep thinking I already hate washing, drying and waxing around the Jeep badge and 4x4 badge.

That looks really sharp. I don't care too much for debadging, but de-chroming the doors on a black truck looks awesome.
