Interior Trim Carbon Fibre, Leather steering wheel

I mentioned on another thread the interior trim project, here are some quick photos of the finished job.

All Overland wood trim has been vinyl wrapped 'real' carbon fibre (this has texture).

Overland steering wheel (with the stupid chrome rings - what where they thinking...) has been re-covered in high grade leather (full wheel).

As said in my previous Amp install location thread, this was done by a professional outfit, using high grade vinyl. All trim was removed off, as the wrap has to extend around the edges and in some cases behind the trim.

Will take some better pictures with my SLR and will update original post. I think WK SRT guys would also be interested in this look

Definitely :)

Also took off the Boston Acoustics badges from the speaker grills as they are no longer Boston Acoustics. Hertz Audio all the way.

Just a word of caution to anyone doing this wrap, the air vents and shifter trim (the ugly chrome thing that sits on top of the wood trim) have steep edges, so most vinyl would struggle to stay on. The carbon fibre seemed to have stuck well ... must be also the textured composition of the film that allows it to 'mould' to the corners. The same did not work with cheaper matt black or glossy black vinyl.

What wrap did you specifically use? I used 3M vinyl on my 2010 SRT8

The vinyl was manufactured by a friend's company in Germany, I think the brand is called ProWrap, though his website hasn't been updated yet with the details; my car was a lab rat I believe!

Pro Wrap - High quality Vinyl Carbon Fiber | Tradex Middle East

3M is a massive company, they generally do very good products, I am not keen on their window tint though. Interesting since they started off 1902 in grinding wheel abrasives in Minnesota !

I love the new carbon look, in fact you gave me a great idea as i'm already sick and tired of the stupid oem wood style trim.. Did you have to remove the steering wheel and the wheel buttons to cover with leather and carbon ??

Any cost estimates for the vinyl and the leather????

Thinking of giving my trims for vinyl wrapping to 3M which is the best we have in greece......

Hey man, glad it served as an inspiration ! I was sick of the some wood style trim for the first day I bought the car brand new, was the only compromise I did in my view when I bought the GC.

Steering Wheel: yes, removed steering wheel and horn button and side control buttons (Overland trim). The challenge in the wheel full wrap was that the upper part is wood, and the lower part is leather, and there are these (stupid) "chrome" rings that separate the two. the leather wrap shop told me that they can't wrap over these without it 'bulging' so they ended up breaking them off and filling the gap with foam/sponge and then wrapping the whole steering wheel with leather. To be honest it wasn't cheap doing all this but I hated the wood so much so was willing to pay. Good leather car upholstery companies would know what to do with this I guess but don't go cheap on steering wheel. I paid about 2000 AED for this (400 EURO) so you can get for cheap or more, but I wanted the real deal for real leather - perhaps you can get this done cheaper in Greece.

Vinyl Wrap Trim: All trim was removed off first. I guess the price I paid would not serve you any purpose as a very close friend owns the wrap shop and he did it for me at cost materials only (I don't think he was even charging that). The vinyl price material is pretty standard, the cost is really in labour. Trouble with carbon Fibre is to get the 'pattern' looking symmetrical and aligned, so needs patience and good craftsmanship. If you are really stuck, perhaps I can ask if he would take international jobs, but not sure if it would be cost effective with paying courier back and forth to Greece...

Good luck!

That was very useful - thanks ! Found a shop locally using "CARBON BY ARLON" for wrapping. I will stop by and have look...

For the steering wheel i have to find the time to remove it first.....

Thanks all info !!!

I work in a sign shop. Id be interested in the type of vinyl used also.

Ive got samples of the carbon fiber wrap from another company and did not like it. I am trying to get a sample of the Oracal CF wrap material. It has texture and has a good look to it.

Ive wrapped cars/tailgates before so I am pretty sure I can handle this. Just take your time, go slow. Heat guns are your friends.
