Yes, it bolts on. No it won't give you 50 hp. The ports don't match well (different sizes with the 5.7 being smaller). You'll also have to change to the 6.1 fuel rails. To do it right change to the 6.1 heads too. Oh, then the exhaust ports are different too, so you'd need the 6.1 exhaust manifolds. Not worth it unless you can get a "real" good deal on all the stuff.

I'd love to do that mod. so I could keep the MDS. I know some folks don't like the MDS, but I think that combo would enhance overall performance. To buy everything outright though, you could almost buy a complete 6.1. A buddy with an LX Magnum Hemi put the ported/polished 5.7 heads and Frank's Little Boy cam with a 100 shot of N2O. Total cost a little over $4000 with him doing the install. It did cut a little more than a second off is E.T. at the drags though.

Why would you want to get rid of the 5.7 intake manifold? It's a lot better than the 6.1!

Smoother runners, less weight, no heat soak issues, longer runners = more low end torque, ect, ect...it has may advantages except for looks...it is quite ugly.

My only concern with the 5.7 intake mani is will it hold together under 20+ psi's!

I still have MDS in mine...and it works perfectly.

Escape, you're right on about everything. The aluminum 6.1 looks kind of crude and rough compared to the 5.7 one, IMO. If you've ever had two of them side by side (heated up to operating temp.) just put your hand on each intake. Heatsoak is terrible on the 6.1.
