Heads up on Grand Cherokee, Liberty recalls

If not yet, you may soon be hearing about a NHTSA recall request on a couple of our models. As you digest the information available, I wanted to give you a link to Chrysler Group's response and why we disagree with NHTSA's position: http://www.chryslergroupllc.com/Inve...tePaperNew.pdf.

I can't answer any questions but wanted to be sure you get all sides of the issue.

As always, we really appreciate all the discussion, feedback and support. If I can be of help on other issues, let me know.

-Mike

A family member has an '02 Liberty and is worried about this. We hear that a "fix" in the meantime is to install a skid plate over the gas tank. IF she were to do this, she wonders where the cheapest place to get an "OEM" part would be?

That was the GM solution to install a shield but some of it at least was plastic. I don't recommend people run out and panic on this. The problem has been around for a long time and a little more information is needed. Installing a piece of aluminum or steel in place may make the problem worse.

Just posted around 2:15 p.m. ET today. Chrysler Group and NHTSA have resolved the recall issue. Details at http://bit.ly/ResolveRecall. (Links to a news release pdf.)

Thanks for all the support.

Any truth to the report that the fix is a trailer hitch?

Thankfully all WJs sold in South Africa came with the skid plate standard. Scary stuff though.

The way I read it WJ's aren't part of the recall at all anymore. Chrysler wins cut from feds, recalls 1.56 million Jeeps
