Electrical gremlin...
Okay I have noticed several things. I had an HID conversion kit on my 99 WJ. The right passenger low beam burnt out. I took the high beam from that same side and swapped em so I'd at least be able to drive at night. It worked for a while. That bulb blew and it blew the fuse. Tried replacing the fuse and it instantly blew when lights turned on.

I took the HID kit out and put in normal bulbs for the sake of trouble shooting. Now at night when the lights are on the interior lights stay on as if the door is open but no open door warning. Only way to get them off is to set the interior lights to off which then I can't see the speedometer. Lol

Also now the switches for the windows are acting weird. I went to drive it to a ball game today got in put the windows down like normal. After the game, nothing would work via the switches. No locks, no windows, mirror adjustments, nothing. When I got home I put the car in park and still no switches would work. Turn the car off, still didn't work. Opened the door and shut it and magically the switches all work.

I doubt it's all related but I don't even know where to start. I haven't had any electrical problems until now.

As an added note, prior to this the passenger front window would not roll up if the door was open. I'm not sure if that's how it's supposed to work or if that's another hint.

Re: Electrical gremlin...
This is commonly a broken wire in the drivers door boot, the one which goes from the door to the body. The black wire is normally the one which breaks, because its a too stiff wire and due to the flexing when opening the door it will break eventually.
When yours still works now and then, it can be that the isolation is still intact. Remove the boot from one side and have a look. feel the wires and especially the black one for an internal wire breakage. The access is not that good.

That's what I'll need to look at for the power switches not working? Any idea on the interior lights?

Re: Electrical gremlin...
All problems are related to that wire in the door boot. With the wire broken, all interior lights will stay in bright, no power windows nor power locks work.

Oh wow thank you so much. I'm going to go check it out now! I was worried it was something serious! This website and it's members are the best!

Well upon looking that black wire is taped in 2 places. Would a heavy duty speaker wire suffice to replace the section?

Re: Electrical gremlin...
You could better get the same gauge wire, but only a more flexible one. I had this same problem some years ago and made a temporary repair, which is still there:o.

I believe the problem is solved. And it didn't take long at all. There was another wire that had been spliced I'm color blind but it was orange and some other color. I replaced that and the black one and the windows seem to work fine. Really bright out so I'll test the lights tonight but if all it took was some wire and electrical tape that just made my day!
