New 04 WJ owner. Lots to do :(

Have an O4 ltd. Nice car but for:
-2 broken L exhaust manifold bolts
-L/R upper & lower ball joints
-leaking radiator
-viscous coupling burnt out ( no 4 all-time ) 4 low and rear drive work.
-bent and wobbly drivers seat
-broken air filter box mounts
-degraded headlight covers

Don't get me wrong I like the car but quite a job sheet before winter here in Central PA.
Would appreciate any and all input suggestions.

Welcome to the garage.
4.7 L, 5-45RFE and the NV247 T-case?
Radiators are very common, they start leaking at the seam between the aluminum core and the plastic tank. I put a spectra premium in.
The coupling in the T-case (a progressive coupling for the NV247) is quite expensive. Did you already check the fluid level and how the fluid looks like?

Welcome Dan! Where are you from? Is your WJ a V8 or an I6? The reason I'm asking is you have some interesting transfer case options such as a Select Trac swap depending on what motor you have. The 242 and 242HD(V8)are a great alternative to the 247 you have now plus you also gain 2wd mode.

Thanks for the replies! Have the 4.7 v8.
Dealer quoted crazy money to repair the drivrrs side manifold bolts. I unfortunately have no garage or tools having moved to Penn State from Philly. Is this a job I could do at home? With tools I'd have to buy?
Will probably ebay an elcheapo radiator unless someone has acces to a better one from within this forum.
Want to get this running sweet first then turn it into a street attacking machine with towing power and very limited uneaven excursions.
Want wide tires wider body bigger brakes. Later though.... much later.
Appreciate your input!

Thanks.

242, 242 hd from what model? They would work in the 4.7 v8 I have. Great. Looking forward to tearing into this thing.

Re: New 04 WJ owner. Lots to do :(

Rockauto sells the Spectra premium radiator for around USD 110.
The 242 T-case should bolt up to the 5-45RFE tranny adapter housing, you will need an other T-case shifter assy and maybe also different propeller shafts, not sure about that.
Maybe an other member can chime in on the manifold bolts. Are the bolts sheared of flush with the manifold, or do they sit deeper? If still a piece sticks out of the head, you could probably put a wrench on it and get them out, otherwise just with easy outs. The access to them is an other problem.

Thanks. Great info. How diffficult a job are the ball joints?

Should not be that difficult, but seems that you need a special tool to press the old ones out and the new ones in.

242 HD fom a a 99 to 04 V8 is a direct swap.As Frank said you need the Selc Track shifter also. The shifter you have now will work but it will be hard to tell what mode you're in. Also if you go with the 242 HD you need to use the rear driveshaft from the donor WJ also.
