Cleaning Scuff Marks From Door Plastic ?

For some reason I just can't get use to getting out of my '14 Summit without my shoe/sneaker hitting the inside of the door and leaving a Scuff Mark. (See Photo Below for Location)

I will continue to "practice" getting in & out, but until then what's the best thing to Quickly Clean and Remove the Scuff Marks on the inside plastic of the doors ?

Thanks,
Tom

I don't think there is anything you can do about it - I have the same problem. Thing is with my escalade, I never had the doors scuff as easy as these ones do, back of front seats are just as bad.

Every door in my Jeep had scuff marks when I picked it up. I guess the prep guys held the doors with their feet as they took the plastic off the seats.

I tried all the conventional cleaners to no avail. I then turned to my old standby. Although not recommended for plastic (so try at your own risk) RainX did the best job. Not perfect, but pretty good. I did use a vinyl cleaner to get any residual RainX off the plastic.

It was the only thing that made the grey plastic on my MDX stain free.

My Summit got delivered with scuffs on the drivers door panel. No doubt due to the delivery truck drivers big feet scuffing the door panel as he squeazed into and out of the door when he was loading and unloading it off his truck. They don't care. But Chrysler should take a clue from BMW and install some protection on the bottom of the door panels and on the chrome strip running under the doors since the one on mine is all scuffed up front people that don't care what damage they cause.

See photo for how BMW protects the interior door panel from shoe scuffing. But of course that would cost Marchionne money out of his bonus so thats not gonna happen.

Once you get the spot(s) clean, I would put a piece of clear packing tape on the area so no marks are left in the future.

Try this: TechCare

This stuff works great on WeatherTech floor mats. The Protector makes scuff marks easier to remove too. I sprayed the protector on my lower door panels along with floor mats.

I read somewhere that a Mr Clean Magic Eraser and warm water will work for auto plastic scuff removal. I have always just wet a shop rag in warm water and a some Simple Green
which takes a little elbow grease but removes all of the marks.

Thanks for the help and suggestions - I will give them a try !!

Obviously I realize my Jeep will get some nicks and marks over time, but I already have about 7 Scuff Marks in the first 6 Days !!

(For the record - NO Scuff Marks at Delivery)

Let us know if any of the suggestions for removing the scuff marks work.

Google for adhesive backed plastic sheet. Teflon and Nylon are pretty durable and if quite thin you can roll them on with a hobby roller so they are almost invisible. Of course then you have to clean the shoe marks off them...

No single answer for cleaning shoe marks, depends on whether polish marks, sole marks, and the material. Sometimes Windex works, sometimes that heavy duty cleaner the prep guys at your dealer use works much better [if they are too cheap to give you a can, drive your GC thru their window], sometimes you have to use stuff like Fiebings leather cleaner or even Goo Gone.

Meanwhile, you could always take your shoes off after making sure your feet are clean? :)

my '14 had scuff marks all over it upon delivery. I'm guessing from the install of my roof racks. when the time came for the survey on the buying experience I just spoke with the sales manager of the dealership and he gave me a free detailing to use whenever I please. that was good enough for me. fair deal I think. as for now, I just us a standard household cleaner and some elbow grease to get it clean.

Just read the whole thread... kind of silly actually, even the GM vehicles I have been in have plastic protective tape on them.

I do admit on the Durango I find it really hard not to mark those doors either!
