2014 Jeep Overland - Dash lit up like a christmas tree, speedometer not working

So I have a 3 week old 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland with 1000 miles on it. I used the unconnect remote start from my cell phone about 4 minutes before walking out of my office this evening. When I got to the car it had not started.. I didn't think much of it until I turned the car on!!!

I started the car and immediately noticed the Brake light was on.. Then the ABS light.. The the check engine light, then the air bag light, then the traction control light! Basically the whole dash was lit up like a Christmas tree. Scrolling to the message center it told me to have my ABS serviced, my air suspension, my electric braking control (or something like that) and a few other things!!! (The air suspension is not working). I then put the car in drive and it moved fine but the speedometer is not working, its lit up but it does not show speed. My odometer is not adding miles, the range went from 205 miles, to 165 miles, to 210 miles, to 150miles and so on...

Anyone hear of this happening? I've read a few forums and only seen issues with ground wires. Could this be it? Taking it to the dealer before work in the morning.

I had the exact same thing, and at least one other person mentioned it. The first time the dealer cleaned up some grounds. The second time Jeep sent a new PCM. It was replaced on May 24th and so far so good.

In both instances the lights (except check engine) went out, and everything started working either later in the day or the next day. The check engine light took a little longer, but it retained the fault codes.

The second time it spit out two pages of codes.

Bill - Thanks for the response. I assume that when they cleaned the grounds it only temporarily fixed the problem if at all? If so, how long before it happened again. I really appreciate your response and will tell the dealer about your experiences tomorrow. Maybe i'll ask for a new PCM

Since all was in order when they cleaned up the grounds, I'd say it did nothing. At the time everyone was reponding to a Star case about a loose ground. I had already checked mine before ever having the problem, but based on the codes that is what Chrysler told them to do.

The second time, they decided it was the PCM. Their logic was that if all the codes had been real problems the car would not be running. I took about a week for the PCM to come in, and everything was fine for that week, including the QuadraLift.

Bill - Just found the other thread that you posted your issues in. I went out to the car and started it again and all the lights are now off other then the check engine light. Sounds like either the PCM or the Shifter Module?

When you go to the dealer have them give you the codes particularly any relating to low or high voltage.

Seems to happen to Overlands and Summits mostly and may be related to grounds that were not properly tightened at the factory.

Evidently it can show up many different ways from the Christmas tree effect to sudden death.

Will do. Just went out and hand checked the grounds by the battery and in the engine compartment. All seemed solid....

Will check back in tomorrow once the dealer pulls codes.

Where exactly are all these grounds located that our friends at the factory seem to be forgetting to tighten up??

I've got a 2014 Overland - here is a video of my dash from this evening: 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Dash Dead - YouTube

...it's BACK at the dealership!

Ugh, what a mess.

This same thing happened to me 2 weeks ago. 14' limited V6 luxII. Cleared itself as soon as I got to the dealer and had multiple codes stored. They told me "bring it back if it does it again". Been good so far, but it's an eery calm...

Same issue here. Happened to me once. Dealer told me to come in if it happens again.
