2014 Limited HeadLights

Hey,

Are there brighter bulbs on the matket for the stock projector headlights? I'm not interested in replacing the whole light for the HID's just want some better light out of the stock units. Anybody replace their bulbs?

Thanks

I replaced all headlight & fog light bulbs on my 2014 Limited (non-HID) with Phillips Crystal Vision Ultras (H11 low beams, 9005 high beams, H11 fog light). Definitely whiter than the stock bulbs.

I got them for about $25 per pair on Amazon w/free shipping.

Are they just white or is there a blue tint to them?

The bulbs themselves do have a blue tint to them, but the light they emit is just white...no blue hue at all.

I've not looked at my headlights/fog lights - are the bulbs on all of them easy to get to, GC?

Not really.

There's a computer harness on the passenger side near the headlight assembly that needs to be disconnected so you can get your hand in there to replace the bulbs. On the drivers side, you have to take the air intake tube off the air box to access those bulbs on that side.

As for the fog light bulbs, you'll find it best to access those bulbs from underneath...taking off the plastic splash cover. When I had my lower fascia off to install the tow hooks, I replaced the fog light bulbs while I was at it. Piece of cake with that lower bumper off!

I haven't replaced the GC bulbs but I installed Sylvania Silverstar ultra's on my truck and they are a lot better than the oem bulbs. They are not cheap but the difference was worth it IMO.

I recently replaced the bulbs in my wife's Galant with the SilverStar Ultra's. They are much more white, but honestly they didn't seem much brighter. Her car is older so I had already replaced bulbs, so take it with a grain of salt - I'm sure what I put in there the first time I replaced the bulbs weren't OEM either. BUT, they really didnt' seem much brighter. I noticed that when you look at the specs on the bulbs, the color temp varies, but basically all of the halogen bulbs are rated at the same lumens.

I also just (yesterday) upgraded my Liberty from the OEM bulbs to an HID kit. Holy monkey-nuts....they are bright. I didn't replace the entire assembly, just did the conversion kit that xenon depot sells.

Keep this in mind - when you buy the "brighter" halogen bulbs, the life of the bulb is quite a bit shorter. Maybe 2 years. If you plan to keep your vehicle for a long time, you'll probably end up spending as much over time as you would on the HID's (they last a lot longer). In my opinion, they are well worth the money.

Last note - I debated between the 4300k and 5000k bulbs, went with the 5000. I'm not unhappy with them but they are more blue than i was expecting. If you want a really white light/no blue, get the 4300's.

I replaced my crappy stock Sylvania bulbs with the Phillips Crystal Vision Ultras mostly to get rid of the cheap yellow look the stock bulbs threw out...not really for an overall increase in light output.

As for the actual increase of light the new bulbs emit, not much more than before, but they sure as hell look a lot better.
