Light upgrade to '12 WK2 GC Overland
I've got a '12 WK2 Black CG Overland (had since new) and I'm not overly impressed with the light output with the lights - so I was looking at upgrading the bulbs for the drive lights, head lights and fog lights for a) better light output and b) a more consistent look (all bulb colours matching).
a) is it worth it? I've seen a number of post on how to do it and it looks like a mammoth task.
b) what wattage and colour temperature are the existing bulbs?
c) would I be better to increase the wattage or colour temperature to get a better light output (brights and further)?
d) thoughts on converting the driving lights and fog lights to HID? or leave them as standard?
Thoughts and opinions much appreciated.
Re: Light upgrade to '12 WK2 GC Overland
From what little experience I have, actually hooking up the xenons is not as hard as it looks. The only thing that confuses me is the wiring harness (some kits might not require a wiring harness).
I'm currently looking at a DDM Tuning kit. They're customer service rocks too. (no i'm not spaming or promoting, just going off experience from using their kits on my bike). I honestly don't care for the tints in blue or purple on the bulbs so I'm going for a 6k bulb, which is considered "pure white." I'm considerate enough not to blind people at night so I'm sticking to a 35w ballast. But your overland should come with projector headlamps so light distribution shouldn't be a problem and 55w ballasts would be ok if you wanted high light output. As for the fog lamps, I personally prefer the yellow 3k bulbs (i think it's 3k), simply because yellow is the highest visible wave length in the light spectrum, specifically when combating fog, other than red; obviously can't use red for the front lights :p
IMO, you should probably keep the daytime driving lights the way they are. Possibly the high beams as well, you'll probably rarely use them with these high quality xenons lol. Just my 2 cents, hope this helps your decision process.
