3.7 towing rating

i know its rated at 3500... now my question is:

Is there ANYTHING i can do to increase this?

transmission cooler?
oil cooler?
bigger radiator?

there has to be something... does the transmission cooler for the 4.7 fit the 3.7??? thanks guys!

You could add a tranny cooler and an engine oil cooler too because that 'lil engine will be working too hard but I would not stretch it. IMHO the 3.7 is a good engine but underpowered just moving the Jeep alone. I would not tow more than it's rated for no matter what.

Re: 3.7 towing rating

i thought it was the transmission that was the weak link... i've seen other trucks with smaller engines tow more:(

Trucks usually don't have a unibody design - a body-on-chassis truck is going to be able to tow much more because the chassis is stronger than the unibody design.

Why do you think Dodge Ram's with basically the same drivetrain (5.7/545RFE) can tow up to like 9,200 pounds and the Jeep can only do 7,200?

Also, the transmission cooler for the 4.7 wouldn't work (I'm guessing) because the 3.7 and 4.7 use different transmissions. Does the SRT come with a tranny cooler? Because the SRT and 3.7 do use the same trans.
