Smoke from transmission dipstick

So I was changing my engine oil today and when I finished I cranked the engine to perform a leak check. I notice a little smoke. Narrowed it down to the transmission dipstick. Anyone ever hear of this? I checked the level while in park and it said level was low. Cycled the gears, left it in N and it was as if no fluid was there. Yes I was on a level surface... So any thoughts?

Re: Smoke from transmission dipstick

Fill it to the low mark in neutral then let it get to operating temp idling in neutral. Once warmed up top it off to full if necessary.
