Hey Everyone,
I will be getting a Summit soon and I would like comments on quality for the 2014's. Thinking of telling my sister to get a GC but want to be sure of the reliability she is looking at MDX's, Infiniti's, and Lexus. I told her the new Jeep was better all around then any of those. I would hate to have her spend the cash and have problems though.

Re: quality

No matter what the brand and model, there will be a percentage of folks who have issues with various things and a typically much larger percentage of folks who have no issues. (My MY12 has been nearly flawless) The MY14 JGC has been in production for many months now and many initial issues have been ironed out. There are always individual vehicles that have problems crop up, however. Nature of the beast.

Personally, I feel that the JGC is, in general, a pretty reliable and well-built vehicle. I wouldn't have spent what I did if I didn't feel that way.

I'm considering a JGC Overland and have the same concerns. My first JGC was a 1993 which had very few problems. 1999 purchase was the complete opposite. Haven't owned one since 2004. Edmunds/KBB JGC 2014 forums are a red flag - with several negative reviews. It looks like it might be wise to wait a few months before making a final decision.

I think you might find more little problems popping up in the GC than the other brands you mention. The big difference is in the companies attitude, and the local dealer. Jeep, not providing loaner cars even when a car has to remain overnight is terrible. Every Chevy and Ford I ever owned had that as part of the warranty. Acura provided a loaner even for a half day repair.

There are a few friends I would still recommend they buy a Jeep. My sisters ... never.

It may also be fair to consider that some folks just shouldn't buy a Jeep because they won't be using the items that differentiate one from the all wheel drive variants of non-offroad alternatives.

There may be a bit of truth in the "its a Jeep thing...." mentality where there aren't that many real SUVs left, and for a significant portion of the public wanting space and all wheel drive--this is not an issue--but for others it is.

Re: quality

this is my first Jeep, I've had it for 3 months.

based on my experience with the service department, the chrysler/jeep customer advocate group and the truck itself.

The trucks are built with poor quality control and the service departments are staffed by people who do not care and generally seem to be without proper training and knowledge. The level of service from the point of sale to the service group is sub-par.

My opinion is solely based on my specific truck and the sale and service of the specific places I've gone...but from what I've been reading, other experiences mirror mine. Also, my opinion is based on comparison with my experiences with Honda and VW/Audi.

All cars/trucks will have issues, the number of them and how they are handled make the difference.

I will never buy a Jeep again, nor would I recommend a friend or family member to buy one.

Re: quality

My wife's Laredo X has been flawless--just broke 12,000 miles and not a squeak or rattle. Everything works. It was this tight fit and finish that persuaded me to trade in my problem plagued truck for my Overland. It has 10,000 miles on it nad eveyrthing works---just a pesky buzz and intermittent rattle.

I had considered another Toyota but my 2004 Runner racked up $3,600 worth of repairs right after the third year until 6th year when I got rid of it. Oh what a heeling. Toyota's now are plasticky, cheap with standard equipment---I would not have gotten half of the equipment from Toyota. toyota's QC has gone down while Jeep has gone up. Jepp had cleaned out teh Jefferson North Americna Plant and stopped work for a month to install new robotics nad new assembly equipment to make this currrent vehicle. toyota still won't come down on price much---take it or leasve it---you're buying the vaunted and over inflated Toyota "reliability". Jeep received Consumer Reports award for best quality cars in Domestic Manufdactuirer for 2011. It still has the CR's Recommended Check for the V6 model. The current build is certainly heads and choulders above previous models. Toyotas are not what they used to be and US made stuff is not as bad as they used to be.

I would not hestitae to recommend the Wk2 Jeep GC. Every car can be a lemon or has bugs in it. I think buying Toyota can be just as much of a crapshoot.

Well then they better have the robot that installs the liftgates realigned since many are still being assembled with misaligned liftgates.

Unfortunately, that will change for worse with the 2014 model year.
