2014 3.6L Intake/Exhaust/Chip

Hi y'all! I just ordered my first Jeep ever, a 2014 Summit 3.6L. I'm real excited about it, and until I take deliver I'm killing time by reading threads and learning the ins and outs of the WK2's. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for parts.

I've read about Mopar and AFE CAIs, but are they available for the 2014? Are there any independent dyno numbers to back up their claims?

Is there a specific 3.6L exhaust or is it best to slap a Hemi kit in? Also, any real world dyno results?

Is a piggyback chip necessary because of the stock computer "learning around" modifications?

Possibly a dumb question, but does the Summit come with skid plates? There wasn't one on the lot to snoop around in when I placed the order, and I forgot to ask the salesman. If not, is that available elsewhere, and would it interfere with a new exhaust kit?

I'm not a huge fan of the 20" chrome rims, but that's the only option available. Is there a place online that will purchase them, or is selling them locally the best bet?

I've made a couple of Google attempts at researching this, but with mixed results. Figured I should ask the experts :)

Thanks for the help!

Good luck with the new Jeep when it comes in!!! If you are interested in selling the wheels when you get it I may be interested. Feel free to shoot me a PM.

BTW if you do not like the 20's, go for 18s, the 17s from a Laredo will not clear your brakes.

AFAIK there is not a chip for a Pentastar nor is there a lower temp thermostat so a CAI is not going to do much.

Thanks for the feed back! I suppose aftermarket parts will take time to develop, I'll look into it further later.

I'll let you know about the wheels, suppose it depends on what I think of them when I see them in person.

I don't know about any independent results, but the manufacturers usually claim ~10 hp & torque, which I'm highly suspect about.

Regardless, if you're looking for a substantial increase in engine sound, an intake is a great way to go Oh, and a chip/tune isn't necessary with an intake.

Here's a clip of the in-cabin sound of my K&N. I'm fairly certain any intake you get that fits the 2011-2013s, they will also fit the 2014s.

I'm happy. It's a little loud at WOT, but I'm getting used to it. No appreciable mileage benefit whatsoever.

Ok what it the proper name for a noisemaker that does not affect the IAT ? CAI just seems...wrong.

OAI maybe - oily air intake ?

Hi,

I have a 2012 Grand Cherokee with the 3.6 Pentastar. I did the following modifications: Magnaflow catback, Airaid cold air intake, and I bought a JDM performance chip. I know there are many negative comments regarding these kind of chips. However, I'm using mid grade gasoline (89 octane) and my low end performance increased. Also in high RPM the motor really pulls strong. My real time gas consumption is 26-25 mpg on the highway and about 22-23 mpg in the city. I'm very happy with my setup, despite all the negative comments from people. I also wonder how many actually tried these modifications.

Which do you think made the biggest difference?

After doing much research about the pro's and con's of upgrading, it was recommended by engine tuners to do the catback, cold air intake and the throttle body kit to really make all upgrades work together and get the best performance. Installing just a catback or just a cold air intake does not make a difference in performance. I also tried running 91 octane fuel for a month which did not do anything for the performance. However I do feel the difference between 87 octane and 89 octane. 89 octane fuel seems to get me the best performance and fuel economy for my engine.
