Am I crazy?

So here's my dilemma, I bought a loaded 2013 Summit with the Hemi and feel that I made a mistake. Not because I bought the 13, but that I should have gotten the SRT8. I traded in my Cayenne S for it and I thought with the Hemi it would be enough, but it's a huge step Down in performance and drivetrain refinement. The trans on my Summit drives me crazy with the clunking, hesitation and general slush under hard acceleration. I like everything else about the truck, just it's performance I think it is subpar in this price range(my parents Lexus rx350 is more refined). So with just over 5k miles I'm thinking of trading it in for an SRT8. How bad do you think the beating is going to be and will I be
disappointed with the SRT8 as well? What do you think I can get a left over 13 SRT8 for? Am I crazy to even think about this?

I agree with Scott, if your gonna take a hit, you may as well get the '14.

Re: Am I crazy?

Porsche Cayenne to a JGC Summit is really apples to oranges in so many facets. I recommend that if you can find a 2014 JGC SRT and test drive it first. No sense in guessing or trying to imagine what the performance and/or driving chatacteristics are like. Unless you got the cash to roll the dice, then by all means means, let er rip potato chip. 2014 JGC SRT for the win.

Scott is 100% correct. I have driven the Cayenne and you should drive the 2014 SRT before making a decision (I am not going to say they are the same because they are not but you will be pleasantly surprised). You are going to take a beating but if you can get over that the SRT will be very rewarding.

Thanks guys, I drove a 2013 SRT before buying my Summit and liked it but thought I was ready for something a little more luxurious and less sporty, I guess I was wrong. I will test drive the 14 SRT and see what I think. Thanks for all of your help.

I would think the only possible source of "disappointment", switching from the Summit to the SRT could be a harsher ride, even in "Auto" mode. And I have no idea how any of the two compares to a Cayenne S...

I had my final choices down to the cayenne, 14 SRT, and range rover. I test drove all of them and looked at the options available. My limit to spend was 75. I was not impressed with the interiors of the range rover due to lack of technology ( I love big screens). The cayenne was very nice inside- but only being able to get the base model motor in it for the same price as 6.4 SRT turned me off. Once I sat in the 14 I knew I was going to buy it. And 5 days after the dealership stopped playing their BS games and knew I wasn't screwing around we made a deal and I have loved my decision every second of the day. If you have 120K for the cayenne GTS or whatever then go for it lol but I don't think it's worth almost double this amazing beast 14 SRT

You should try and go for the 2014 SRT if you can; you won't be really happy unless you make the switch. I too was in the same predicament as you, had a 2006 Cayenne S; loved it - no problems, handled great, good exhaust and quality/fitment was top notch. I looked at everything including the Audis, Jeeps, etc and nothing could compare to the Cayenne S performance/quality. I ended up getting a used 2010 BMW X5 thinking that would be the next best thing becuase I found a really good deal on the 4.8 V8, with larger wheels, sport mode, etc. Absolutely hated it, didn't like the ride feel, the V8 power felt weaker than the Porsches, new I should either kept the Porsche or waited a little longer for the SRT8 to come out as that was right around the time the 2012s were hitting the dealer lots but really hard to find. A few months later I traded the BMW X5, eventually got the 2012 SRT8, absolutely loved it and since then have traded it in now for the 2014. Long story short - I don't even look twice at a Cayenne when it passes - for the money, power, refinement, options, etc.; I think they hit the nail on the head with the 2014s and if you can afford the switch; go for it.

Re: Am I crazy?

I traded my 06 Cayenne Porsche Turbo S AND my 2011 Hemi Limited (was optioned out like an Overland) for my 2013 SRT8GC Vapor Ed. Yes the Turbo S and the SRT8 are hugely different beasts but like you and others have noted, if you want to play in a Porsche you have to bring the big bucks! Several vehicles before that I had a 05 Cayenne S and traded that in for a 2010 SRT8GC. You are correct about the power differences but I feel much of that has more to deal with the power band and the transmission since power have similar output numbers. Additionally, the 08-10 Cayennes were direct injection with makes power smoother and faster.

That is the problem I have with being a driving enthusiast and buying cars, what might seem like a great car during a test drive... you quickly find yourself having buyers remorse and looking for something else. I have had a 06 Magnum SRT8, a 08 LT3 Corvette, 05 Mini Cooper S, 05 Porsche Cayenne S, 10 SRT8GC, 11 GC Limited, 06 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, and now a 13 SRT8GC since 2008... and I am finally happy with my ride. To me the question is can I get a good deal and a good interest rate when I trade my vehicles in. Have I been upside down before... yes, but is it worth it to finally have a vehicle that I love to drive and makes me smile every time I take her into a hairpin turn at 40mph... you damn well better believe it.
