Tires for 17s

Hello, I am looking for ttire suggestions for the stock rims on a 2011 Grand Cherokee Laredo. The Tire size is 245/70 R17.I would like an agressive tread patter. So far I have looked at BF Rugged trail, Bridgestone Dueler Revo A/T, Michelin LTX, and Firestone Destination A/T.Are there some other choices out there that you can suggest? Can I go an larger on the stock rims?

Re: Tires for 17s

I have a 2006 Grand Cherokee Limited with 246/65/17's and am having the same problem: For about 30 years now I have had to run Jeeps with Quadratrac - and have always had mud tires - the best being Buckshot Mudders and I always get to work etc> I have had the old Cherokees ( when they were the same size as the Grand Wagoneer), small Cherokees; Grand Wagoneers, and Grand Cherokees 1994 and 1996 for my self and family members:
I tried Cooper Discover M&S, stuck-- Mastercraft M&S - stuck; Firestone Winter snow tires with studs, stuck - ALL STUCK IN DEEP SNOW- They are not capable of getting through 12- 1`8" of snow and slush before the plow goes through_
Any mud tire works- I found Buckshot Mudders the BEST- but Dunlop Mud tires work- General Mud Tires work- However Mickey Thompson BAja Belted mud tires go through snow but are not good stopping or traction on ice:
The pattern of Buckshots is the best:
NOw my 2006 Grand Cherokee can't FIT ANY mud tire I can find because I guess when Mercedes Benze owned them- they put a bolt 1/2" above the tire and you can not fit anything into the wheel opening??? I never thought Jeep would allow such a worthless design to exist:
If anyone knows of a mudd deep lugged tire that will fit - I would appreciate it: but for now it looks that I will for the first time in 30 years have to get rid of the Jeep and get something else- of I am trapped:
Sorry to ramble- but I have tried every tire out there- my job takes me out in all hours of the night and I mostly leave before the plows come through- and I have tried every tire out there:
Good luck- but if Buckshot Mudders fit your Jeep--- BUY THEM:::

I have 255/65/17 General Grabber at2's on 09 4.7 w/QD2 and they are amazing in the snow. Had dest at's on my 99 4.7 great tire just wore fast IMO.

Kman- the 255/65/17 is 10" wide and 31.5 inches tall- does it not hit that bolt inside the front f=wheel well from the ball joint??

Re: Tires for 17s

No it does not. I had them on for 10 months and no rubbing. Had a buddy put some bilstein 5100's and srt8 swaybars on last weekend had him trim the bolt to give it more room. inside of tire was clean.

Kman09JGC- I hate to sound so stupid- but as you hit bumps/potholes etc. does that bolt move with the tire or stay stationary - and the tire comes closer to it?
In other words- does the distance between the tire and the ball joint bolt always remain the same when hitting bumps etc??

Re: Tires for 17s

That a good question! I would imagine the tire moves up and down and the bolt stays stationary. Maybe someone can chime in? I have a pic somewhere on here when I first put my tires on of the bolt clearance with the 255/65/17. I think the issue would be when you off road and you get a lot of flex. It normal everyday driving I had zero rubbing with those tires.

Cooper AT3's come in an impressive selection of sizes. I just ordered a set of 235 70R17 for my new (to me) WJ. HTH
