Winch for the Front?

.5 cm as if half a centimeter thick? As is, 5 millimeters thick? I don't think I'd trust mounting a winch to anything that thin.

Do you have any close up pics of the grill guard, etc?

I'll put up some really close close-ups when they load.

And 5mm is just as thick as the mounting bracket that sticks out from under the bumper.

hate to break it to you, but those brush gaurds are weak, ive killed many and watched many others die. it will never support a winch on any kind of a real pull. the 4xgaurd setup would be you best bet since you dont like the ARB. you just mount the winch to a reciever setup and use a plug for the power. (all available from warn).

as a side note though i would not get a warn winch. honestly i would never buy a winch..but the warns cost about x2 more for the name. I have seen alot of winches used and there are many out there for half of the cost.

just my 2 cents..sorry if its a kick to the man place..

I need honesty. Beats the hell out of spending a ton of money and effort just to rip it off 1st time I pull with it. I have thought that if I cut the lowest bar off from the guard and find a receiver mount for the brackets connected to the frame I could have a much stronger place to support the weight.

Don't know what part would fit there and it couldn't stick out very far or it would just kill my angle.

I'm curious as to why everyone on here says the ARB kills the approach angle? I have one on my WJ and have less of a lift than some other WJ's that I have gone out with when they have ripped off their front bumper on stuff I have had no problem with the ARB at all. ARB engineers the Heck out of their stuff, that's partly why it costs so much. If you really look at it though I priced 4 bumpers before I bought my ARB and they were all more expensive. That is for the WJ.

OT: The concern isn't the weight of the winch on your bumper. It is the force of the pulling when you use it. I can't tell what exactly you have mounting to the frame, but if you fabbed a bracket and a cross bar to go down and across where your current one bolts up you should be fine. Or like stated before just get a front mount winch, and a "Multi mount" winch. THen you can slap it on the back. I have had a few times on trails where I could have used a rear winch instead of "Jearking" someone out from behind me.

you could just get the reciever plate from 4xgaurd..the only downside i see with the WK really is that leaving the winch on will kill angle, but if you get stuck then need to put it on then ur hooking up a winch while in a mud hole..lol..could be a bummer...but like i said i never owned a winch and when on trail rides i was out with a snatch faster then anyone could even unspool a winch.

The WJ ARB bumper is great, the one for us WKs is awkward looking and sticks out too far from the bumper so it gives us a worse approach angle. Imagine drawing a line from the bottom of the bumper sticking a good 6 inches out from stock and compare it to the angle you could draw with a stock bumper and 4xGuard skid plate.

I have no worries about gravity's pull against the winch, I stand on my guard all the time to get to things back by the TB or on the windshield and 150 LBs jumping on it's no problem. Like you said, it's all about the forward force.

I think now my best option would be to cut off the bottom bar, find someone who can fab up a front hitch receiver (or get the 4xGuard one if it fits, still discussing this with Russ), and get a winch with a hitch mounting plate.

Where should I go to get the hitch receiver fabricated if I go with that option? Any suggested chains? And a guesstimate as to how much I might be looking at paying?

If I could be sure I could mount 4xGuard's receiver I'd buy it as soon as I had the cash. I'm just struggling to see what the part looks like alone so I could get an idea of how and where I could mount it since I don't have the whole Matrix.
