Darth Vader AC, 2014.

Anyone else's AC make a Darth-Vader-breathing type noise every so often when it's on?

Ha ha. :D

No but really, that's the first thing I thought of when I heard it. If the fan is on high you can't hear it but when it's on between 1-4 "ticks" or so, every once in a while the system makes a sound like Darth Vader is breathing. Had a passenger even notice it without me saying anything.

I have this exact same issue (reponded in other thread) but in my 2011. Just started doing it yesterday after years of trouble free operation.

ALMOST sounds like the air suspension adjusting but its not, def has something to do with climate/ac

I'll talk to the dealer today if i can and see if they have any ideas. Will keep you posted, please do the same in your case!

I haven't noticed it recently, and I'm not sure why -- and for that reason I haven't taken it in yet (that, and the AC works fine and I don't trust anybody with my car ;))

It may be because I've had the fan speed higher than I was having it before when I heard it. Temps have also been different, but I've had the AC on just as much.

Would be interested to hear what your dealer had to say.

Re: Darth Vader AC, 2014.

We took a 3 hour trip yesterday and the a/c all but died completely after an hour and a half of driving each way (Not fun!) so it must be related somehow. Once the vehicle was turned off and sat for 30min it started working again then slowly faded to nothing within 20 min more driving. Something seems to be freezing up after extended periods of use as its back to normal operation today with only short city driving.

I'm booked in for Wed next week so hopefully they can sort it out quick.

Re: Darth Vader AC, 2014.

I have the same problem. But I have noticed when it feels like it has cut off it is actually blowing through the defroster vents. I can cut it off and it will start working again. Today with the outside temp at 90 I had to lower the temp to about 65 for it to blow some what cool. Then all of a sudden on the interstate it starts blowing COLD and I had to raise the temp to 74 for it to be comfortable. No rhyme or reason to why or when it will do it. The dealer can't get it to do it so for now I have to put up with it. There is a Star case started though.

Were you able to get to the bottom of this? I am seeing the same issue with my 2 week old Ltd.

Thanks.

Re: Darth Vader AC, 2014.

Nope, not yet, although I emailed my dealer about scheduling an appointment for this and a couple other issues and I'm waiting to hear back from them.

Here's another thread about seemingly the same issue: http://www.jeepgarage.org/f107/ac-so...off-65098.html

Sounds like it's either a bad expansion valve, or the system just needs a recharge.
