2014 Brake squeal

I understand squeaking brakes in the morning and having to get a little heat in the brakes and get the rust off so they don't squeal but my 2014 Overland's breaks squeal more than the norm and at random times. Never owned a vehicle with this much brake noise at random times in the day. Are the pads just that cheap. I'd take it to the dealer but I think it would just be a waste of time and I'd get the normal run around it's normal or we couldn't find anything wrong. Maybe this is just normal for Grand Cherokee's? Kinda embarrassing though for a 2014 to pull up and breaks are squeaking. I live in the city so I do A lot of stop and go maybe this has something to do with it but my other cars and past cars never squeaked like this. Is there an upgraded pad i could put on??

Re: 2014 Brake squeal

Google "bedding in brake pads" for instructions on how to do this - I do it on every new vehicle I purchase, and after installing new brake pads and/or rotors. Helps to eliminate glazing of the pads and lays down a thin layer of pad material evenly on the rotors to help prevent squealing/vibration of the pads when brakes are applied. If after doing this procedure your brakes still squeal then it could be a hardware-related problem (e.g.; missing clips or bolts too loose) and then you should take it to the dealer for inspection.

That's weird...

The brakes on my 2014 have never made a peep...and I'm almost at 3500 miles.

OP didn't indicate whether this was happening during driving without brakes being used [or suddenly letting off the gas], or only on actually using the brakes or if only wet, and if it is there every time or just intermittently. All of which would have different suspects, including the brake pre-tensioner [or whatever its officially called]

I get teeny chirp on hot days for the first 1-2 stops after having driven in traffic and then park for several hours high humidity, but it never makes a peep after that.

Install a bit of railroad rail or similar on the back.
Then head across the bay to 580 and wait till some !#$%!#$% tailgater inevitably does a dog sniff on you.
Ya bed your brakes and ya do a service for mankind in one quick stop.

Okay that sounds like a plan lol. As to when this happens when I apply the breaks morning afternoon and evening when applying the breaks lightly or when applying them at slow speed. Most of the time it happens when the breaks are cold.

Re: 2014 Brake squeal

Mine will squeak a little in the morning, then quiet after that. Maybe the Jeep is begging for a little dirty time? My last truck would get noisy, brakes, suspension. A weekend of fire roads and a little mud seemed to make her happy enough to stay silent for about another year...

The problem is even if it says the following:

DIAGNOSIS:
If the customer describes the symptom, perform the Repair Procedure.

If the tech doesn't hear it, it will not get done.

Thanks for the info guys much appreciated mine was built in February so I'll definitely be letting my service department know about the squealing all I have to do to reproduce the sound is apply light break pressure was messing with it today really starting to get on my nerves.

I've had this done to my 2012 Overland.

But I was told the squealing might come back... and it has.
