fuel pump check?
Someday soon I will be dropping the fuel tank in order to replace the fuel tank skid plate. Is there any recommended things to check for or replace while i have it lowered? I read the fuel filter lasts the lifetime of the vehicle, and haynes has directions on testing the voltage of the pump which honestly i am not sure I will bother to do unless it is highly recommended. Is the pump a known weak point that should get tested or replaced after a while? Vehicle has 139k miles. The fuel pump was replaced in 2002 @24k miles by dealer (maybe under a tsb or recall) So the pump has 115k on it. Also hoses - should they be replaced?

Re: fuel pump check?
I lowered my fuel tank once and as far as i remember you can just remove/install the skid plate without removing the tank.
Eventhough the fuel filter is not a scheduled maintenance service item, it is still a good idea to change it once. But you can do this at any time, the tank doesn't need to be lowered for that.
Fuel pump can survive the jeep, or it will break down at any moment, you will never know. There is nothing to measure besides the pressure.
Hoses normally will only be changed if you see dry cracks in them.

Re: fuel pump check?
Thanks Frango!! i will not do anything additional then.

i also want to protect the "new" old skid plate and a friend suggested that i get it powder coated. is this any better or worse than using strategically placed spot treatments of por-15 and then top coat of brush on rustoleum like i was planning originally? I am not sure how powder coating compares for rust protection to traditional paint methods.
