My Nav Issues
As stated, I figured I'd start a new thread for fun... I'm really curious if anyone else has this much trouble with the nav. I have had the Jeep since April and have gotten 2 voice recognized addresses entered. That's right, TWO. I had 13.05 originally and have upgraded to 13.19. I have loaded and reloaded 13.19 3 times now...

On to the fun! It almost worked on this one, but just reverted back:

This one just ignores what I said:

And this one, I have to give it to Uconnect, it really tried:

(Wrong street though - Old Oak vs Old Oaks - and wrong City for sure).

I've had it try to route me to freaking Rhode Island before. Typically, it just spins its wheels and continuously asks me for Street Number, Street and City. It is really good at getting Texas and Back...

lol. I tried it twice.

the first time... I gave up, it was terrible. Second time, it worked... but i had to do it one step at a time.

Re: My Nav Issues
Try this just say "find address 1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC" Don't forget to say NW if you try it with out the North West she will throw up all over you. If I give my Navi the correct address she's pretty good at finding what I want.

PS. If she starts to frustrate the hell out of you give her a kick in the ass by holding the mute button and Browse/enter/tune button for a little bit that will reboot the system and clear her memory

Re: My Nav Issues
I said the same address used in your first video "Find address 6565 Fannin st Houston Texas" it worked fine. If i left out street after fannin she would throw up.

Re: My Nav Issues
I know I have tried full street names (including street, blvd, whatever) and what not in the past, but I'll give it a go again when I head home this afternoon. In any case, it is pretty f'in retarded if you have to go into that level of detail as it completely kills trying to find a place. I understand they can't figure everything out, but come on!

(Really what bugs me the most is you can't, or I haven't figured it out, enter 1 piece at a time. Let me enter the number by voice, then verify, then the street, then verify, then the city. If the system is having that much trouble it should go to the basics. Instead it always asks for number/street/city combo).

Re: My Nav Issues

Have you had somebody else try it for you. Maybe you don't annunciate the way she likes. :)

I totally understand what your saying man. They should have based the system off android but then again that's open source and they take a lot of risk going that route. IMHO then again there probably would have been more money making potential.

Re: My Nav Issues
My wife has the same issue in the Jeep. I've tried slowing down, speeding up, inhaling helium, speaking local hood slang - doesn't matter - HA!

I still say that an auto-manufacturer would do good to just have a screen that will display whatever is on a smartphone. Apple or Android, either one. It is hard for me to imagine that the automakers can ever really compete - the cost of R&D to get these things right seems like it would be easier to piggyback off of one of the big guys. My guess is if you dig into the accounting enough they are making more, or believe they can make more, going the internal route.

I can do everything with my phone via voice, first time, every time and it is almost instantaneous in deciphering what I say - good luck on an auto doing that. I really just want it usable. One of the things that was exciting and advertised for the UConnect system was single line destination entry, and it doesn't work.

A tangent to all of this but still related to the voice recognition - calling contacts. I can go get in a gen 1 Uconnect (300, for example), pair my phone, and say "Call wife" once the phonebook is synced. After <1 second of processing it starts calling. On my version, that command is processed for 5-6 seconds before it finally agrees and says "Calling wife mobile." Why is this generation so much slower?

This really is my only nit with the vehicle. I wanted the SRT Jeep in 2012, but waited. I waited for the 2014 for both the 8 speed and the Uconnect. I went to a local dealer several times and played with the gen 1 to ease my wait and to ensure that the system would be worth it. I took a buddy that ranted and raved over his Ford Sync and showed it off; he agreed that it was the absolute best he'd ever seen. He laughs at me trying to enter anything in the Jeep now. I wouldn't go back and buy a 2012, but the UConnect has been disappointing, especially when the previous generation seemed to hold such promise.

Yeah Sony has an aftermarket radio that can display what's on your phone not sure if Sony is still making it or further developing it. Cool idea though to have a separate screen to mirror your cell I know you can already do that with android. I think the auto makers would lose out on the profits though. There is a nice app out on the android market called AVX that is very powerful and you would probably be happy integrates into your car very well. Only downside I've found with the app it's a memory hog so If you don't have a newer phone or tends to be slow.

Re: My Nav Issues
Parrot has and Android unit as well - still relatively beta code on it though. Looks promising as a replacement into a vehicle that doesn't have nav from the factory.

O yeah that right I think I looked at one of their units at Ces

Re: My Nav Issues
Thank you for finally turning your phone on its side to record the 3rd video.

Have you tried Jive, that may help.
