2014 Limited Key Fob

When i purchased my vehicle I was given one key fob and was told they would send me the second one when they found it. Now I am being told that are "cutting" me another key instead of the key fob. Did you guys all get two fobs? I have the keyless entry/start.

Yes, the dealer handed me two key fobs. Does that imply that they lost one of your keys?

They owe you two key fobs- plain and simple.

!!! absolutely put your foot down for this one !!!! You need to get 2 fobs. All the Jeeps come with 2. They are trying to get around the cost it will be for them to replace it. (I think it will be a service call since they will need to reprogram a new one to your jeep)

These things cost a LOT - they are being cheap.

A key is worthless - all it will do is open the door. Yay, you got the door open, now what?

The dealer must think you are an idiot if he thinks you will let him get away with that. I'm not one who hates dealers as most I have dealt with over the years were reasonable. But if they all acted like this ...

Thanks guys. I will absolutely put my foot down. Without this site they may have gotten it past me.

Thanks again.

Yes, 2 FOBs with physical keys inside of each of them.

I know you just bought the vehicle and hopefully won't be trading it anytime soon but when you go to trade in your vehicle that's one of the things they ask. Do you have both key fobs?
Definitely demand the additional fob that you paid for.

Was your dealer in San Antonio? Sounds just like what happened to me- 1 key. Was told to stop by a day later to pick it up. When I did they said they were looking for it and needed more time. I wasn't going to wait around so I asked if they found it to mail it to me but they "didn't know if they could." Their excuse was that it was lost by the service team during the car wash as I picked it up- specifically because "you know how 16-18 year-olds are!" Unacceptable. They are ordering another key and need me to go in for the hour to re-sync.

We asked for a new set (not just one) as this is a security/accountability concern. Is this an unreasonable request? I've got plenty more stuff to share including their military pricing scam and am working on a nice letter as we speak.

I would make them get you a fob and never return. That's BS if they are trying to make you take a cut key and not provide a new fob especially if they are the ones at fault losing it.

Re: 2014 Limited Key Fob

I actually had this happen to me twice, where the dealer lost one of the keys. Both times they supplied a new fob and synched it to the car within a few days and both times I got a package in the mail a few weeks later with the original lost fob in it. While the vehicle can't be paired to more than 2 fobs, having the extra spare was great. Years later, after one of the originals fell apart, just had the brand new spare paired to the car...

Also with a cut key you would be able to open the doors but you would not be able to start the Jeep. In the previous gen you could remove the start button and use a key, but as far as I know in the 14's you can't remove the start button anymore. If the battery on a fob dies you need to push the start button with the fob. So a cut key would not let you drive your Jeep. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
