UConnect 8.4 Missing Features
 
I have a 2014 JGC Limited with 8.4N UConnect. Have had it for 2 1/2 months and came from a 2010 Ford Explorer with Ford Sync (prior to the myFord Touch debacle). The Ford Sync had two really nice features that UConnect doesn't but would think it could easily have.

First - Song Artist and Song Title only appears on the Radio (or Media) screen. Once you leave for Navigation, Phone, Climate, etc., you lose the Song Artist and Song Title. When you leave the screen, UConnect displays the station on the upper left of the title bar. Now, given the layout of UConnect, I really don't see a place they can provide the additional information - so I do understand. However, this information should be able to be displayed in the configurable 7" LCD display on the dash. Currently if you select the audio/media display in the dash, the only information that comes up is the station or media that is selected. Quite frankly this is a worthless display as UConnect provides either the same or more information. If UConnect would be able to pass the Song Artist and Song Title to the audio/media display in the dash - that would be a great feature and one that I would typically use as my default. Really curious as to why the dash display doesn't have this function.

Second - When making calls via the Phone application and Bluetooth to people in my phonebook, the Phone application displays the name of the person I'm calling but doesn't display which number (Home, Work, Cell, etc.) on the screen. I don't necessarily need to see the number, but the tag of Home, Work, Cell, etc. would be very helpful. Sometimes the VR gets the name correct, but may call the wrong number and unless you catch the voice response, you can fail to detect that the wrong number is being called. Not a big deal in the scheme of things, but would be nice to display.

Anyone have any thoughts especially on the song artist, song title feature?

Overall UConnect seems to be an excellent system and with the 13.19.0 flash correcting several issues, it's getting very solid.

While I agree it could be possible to have the information show in the cluster, I question the importance.

While your cruising down the road in your new Jeep listening to music, why do you need to know the artist and song title. Enjoy the music, pay attention to the road, and don't let TMI become a distraction.;)

I have to say that from day one the media thing has been a disappointment for me especially in Bluetooth or iPod, that is when I want to see the title information in the cluster. My Mercedes had this and frankly I see no reason why they cannot pass the information you are looking for to the Cluster.

Now it is purely an educated guess but I do see a future update enabling this feature, as I am not even sure why they would let you see the info in the cluster unless they actually had bigger plans for it. Every Cluster function has loads of detail except the media which other than radio station has next to nothing.

I expect to see a lot of upgrades in functionality and I am hoping that there will be a feature request submissions at some point. As all of the vehicles are planned to migrate over to this system, and the updates will mainly be unified, I only see expansion of the system over time to do more.

As for your cell phone comment, another really good idea, some of my contacts have 6 numbers and it would be really good to know which one I actually got connected with. On a good day from my cell I touch the wrong number, so I am aways happy to see it come up so I know I did it wrong. Again, hopefully a more open upstream communication for the public to UConnect in the future. Would be nice if they developed things people are actually looking for!

Agreed Willx, thanks for the reply. My frustration has been the available upstream comments. It really seems that no one cares. I've talked to Customer Service and UConnect about it and it's the ole "I'll note it".

It's funny - I found a bug in the cluster where a few pixels are left over from the prior screen. I've bet my wife that when my lease is up in 37 months that the bug will still be there because there is no way to provide upstream communications. It's really minor and in the scheme of things it's a non-issue, but it's the principle of how information flows. During my last service, I provided pictures and they ran it by Chrysler tech and they indicated - it "works as designed". It's this type of seemingly non-caring that really frustrates me. This forum has been a saving grace as it really helps hearing that others have similar issues and there is hope out there!

In any case - if you're curious abou the bug... I set my cluster to the digital speedometer and I typically keep the fuel information section on (although I would rather use the media with song artist/title on lol...). When you go into reverse and have the ParkSense on, you get a message "ParkSense Ready" (as long as nothing is blocking your path). The "y" in Ready is lower than the rest of the letters on that line. If you then go into Drive, without stopping in Neutral (so you just press the shifter quickly from R to D, you'll notice that the bottom part of the "y" stays on the cluster and gives the appearance of a pixel outage on the screen. That will stay there indefinitely until a screen change is caused by another event (Nav turn, etc.).

Again - in the scheme of things - it's probably even ridiculous for me to bring up, but just having Chysler tech coming back and saying it works as designed really burns me up!

I'm curious about what you expected when you called to say there is an additional feature you would like Jeep to include? Did you want them to get an engineer right on it? Typically a company makes a note and if they get enough requests they begin to discuss it.

As for the glitch in the cluster, they should have taken that more seriously.

Yes, the cluster glitch is interesting, I do hope they see that and look into it.

My only thoughts about upstream communications is a portal similar to those I use for beta testing products. Selection of some random people who would be interested and then the call centers have the ability to issue bug reports into that same system so that the beta testers can report if the occurance is common or possibly hardware.

I had some brief discussions about this possibility but there has been no movement... They seem to be busy with other things at the moment, so I just keep truckin along here. :cool:

I certainly didn't expect an engineer right on it... lol... I've had a case manager working with me due to several issues including having my vehicle in service for 15 days trying to resolve my vibrating steering wheel when driving over 60 mph - but that's a whole other story!

In any case, I spoke to the case manager about the song title/artist question. She "researched it" and it was determined that UConnect doesn't provide the information and it won't. Again, more of the "works as designed" mentality I'm seeing all around. After pressing her a bit, she relented and indicated she would note it as a suggestion.

All they would have had to say - nice idea, I'll make sure we add it to our customer request list. I would have been satisfied.

Agreed - that is a great idea. I certainly wouldn't mind being a guinea pig to test some of this stuff. I've been scratching my head on some of the things I'm seeing and wonder who really has tested some of this in the real world. Just creating some type of vehicle (pun intended) to engage customers and be geniune about it would go a long way.

Yeah, the average customer service reps at Jeep are not taught how to stroke the customer and make them feel wanted. Poor training. The case manager knew who to say the same thing, "I'll make a note of it" and make you feel good.

That little bit is all it takes to make a customer positive instead of negative. Jeep really needs to work on that in a big way.

I would love to be able to change the background display picture on the 8.4 screen. The dry cracked earth is not my thing. I have some great adventure pics and it would seem that we should be able to do this. Anyone tried?
