2002 Grand Cherokee Air Bag Sensors

Where are the Air Bag Sensors located in the headlight area? My mechanic said that these may be causing the 'Air Bag' light to come on.

1 Attachment(s)
There are two front impact sensors below the headlight units and a side impact sensor below the right passenger restraint mount at floor level (for jeeps with side curtains). There is also an accelerometer inside the airbag control module itself.
Do you just want to check the connectors? Did your mechanic use a scanner to be able to say that it probably is a sensor?

Thanks for the quick reply and PDF! I'll have to check the connections on the sensors or would the disconnect of the negative battery terminal and 30 second brake press clear that?
He used a scanner.

Re: 2002 Grand Cherokee Air Bag Sensors

Did the code show which sensor it was? Could be corrosion/water in one of the connectors, but also a faulty sensor.
Don't forget to remove the negative battery cable first and wait several minutes before attempting any work on the sensors. This time is needed for the capacitor inside the airbag control module to discharge and to have a safe system to work on.
I don't think that the fault code will reset by itself after solving the problem, even after a battery disconnect.

Re: 2002 Grand Cherokee Air Bag Sensors

I had the right front crash sensor go out on my 2002 Limited, Frango is correct that a battery disconnect wont clear this fault. I was able to clear mine with an Innova scanner, but it would not correctly READ the code, just gave something about an open circuit. The dealers scanner showed the exact sensor that was getting wonkey, and it was a relatively cheap fix.

Thanks DHart and Frango. I have to check but I think his scanner said left headlight.
Was busy over the weekend- will have time later in the week to check.
Thanks again
