Paint Scuff - ideas?

After taking the kayak off my roof rack, I noticed a patch of surface scratches on the rear quarter panel. More of a scuff than a scrape, within a ~3-4 inch diameter circle - pretty visible as white lines in the dark green finish.

I was hoping this was just wax and not into the paint, but a quick buff with my t-shirt dashed that idea. :(

Any suggestions to minimize the appearance of these scratches? I do have a bottle touch-up paint, but guessing that's not really appropriate/needed here.

Thanks!

Just as a start I would put a little paste wax on that t-shirt and try again.

if that dont work you can go with a paint polish, then a compound... just use a microfiber towel to apply, rub hard, and wipe of with a new clean microfiber cloth...

Best stuff I ever used for surface cleaning of light scuffs, or just general polishing with very light abrasion was DuPont No. 7 polish and cleaner. Can't find it with the DuPont name on it anymore, but it's still available. Try it somewhere like a door jamb first so you know how it works. Just noticed your location... Im 20 minutes away and would normally say swing over and i'll take care of it, BUT Im in transition to another house and all my tools are at the other house! ARGH. I do custom paint work(mostly bikes) on the side, so i have all the buffing stuff...

Menzerna fg400 compound with an orange buffing pad with a random orbital buffer. Then follow up with Blackfire SRC polish with a pink buffing pad with the same buffer. Then seal with Blackfire Wet Diamond All Finish Paint Protection sealant with a foam pad.

Or take it to a detailing shop and they can do that.

Depending on what you want to spend, PorterCable 7424 with some pads and decent compound/polish/wax will do the trick. Since the Porter Cable is a orbital buffer you have to actually TRY to burn the paint, very safe.

Just remember.. start with less aggressive and work upwards. Its easier to use more aggressive compound and pads then it is to fix the damage if you go too aggressive.
