How dealers are removing themselves from my list

Months ago I had sent out e-mails to almost a dozen dealers in the area to canvas for the best price for my JGC. Most of them 'put me on a list' and a couple actually engaged me in conversation about the GC and provided more information.

Recently, I've been getting the follow types of calls from the dealers:

*Ring*
Me: Hello?
Dealer: Hi this is ____ from _____ Chrysler Jeep Dodge. We haven't heard from you in a while. Are you still interested in a new vehicle?
Me: Absolutely. Are you selling the diesel Grand Cherokee now?
Dealer: .... Oh. Well I'll make sure you are on our list and we will call you when we have more information. Have a nice day!

I've gotten this call three different times in the last few weeks. How unorganized must these dealers be that they can't record what I'm interested in, and check that information before they call me.

Between this, and the sales guy who refused to let me test drive a GC because I wasn't going to buy one that same day, the dealers are disqualifying themselves from my list pretty damn quick. I'll still get quotes from them, but unless they blow everyone else's quotes out of the water, I won't reward poor organization with my business.

Anyone else having this problem?

I have almost the exact same story.

Back in Feb I called a local San Diego jeep dealer and asked about the diesel and told them I was very interested. They said they would put me on a list and I never heard anything since.

Coincidentally, about 5 months later, I get a random email the exact day that I posted on the viper forums on how I traded my viper on a SRT. The email was from the jeep dealer I contacted nearly 5 months earlier about the diesel. "We haven't forgotten about you, as soon as we hear news on the diesel, I will give you a call"

I politely wrote back that I ordered a SRT from another dealer.

Dealers are never organized. I went to my local Jeep dealership to buy my GC, they offered me something like $500 under MSRP. Of course I said no. Went to the dealer next town over, they had a $4000 mark up on it. Then I looked online and found that a dealer 45 minutes away from me has the exact same vehicle (BTW, dealers pay the exact same amount for the vehicle) for $6,000 less than the first 2. Two days later I went there and got the damn thing. Easy choice in my book.

I was on the list.. but went with a car company who already had a diesel ready for the states =)

BMW X5 FTW- 30 MPG all day long (I'm 100% HWY use) twin turbo power. pulls like a v8 !

was not going to give 55k to any dealership that was that unorganized. Call me unamerican =) my friend who has 100k in three dodge and chrysler vehicles.. all with 'made in china' stamps on the parts from rims to wire harness. NO THANKS!

Not sure why they would call you unAmerican, buying a car built in the US but the company is owned by a foreign entity, sounds similar to buying a Jeep. (Now I should get flamed for that. 61.8% of Chrysler is owned by Fiat)

I find threads like this rather interesting. I live in a small town with family owned dealerships and the customer service is, for the most part, outstanding. When your market base is really small, there's no room to PO a customer. These dealers depend on repeat customers to survive. Price isn't always everything.

I do have to admit, the dealer I dealt with over the weekend was the most no-nonsense dealer I have ever dealt with. I would do business with him again. That dealership is about 270 miles from my house. Worth the drive.

PM me if you want his info. He is in WI, but you can buy through any dealer and get the car delivered.

in regards to the first post that is all pre written out. most dealers use a program to communicate with potential buyers
its generic and the key is to get you in.

You can buy a car nation wide now with great ease and its been more than a decade since I bought from a local dealer. Even then only because they matched price. These people are in business to make money selling a product and I am in the business of buying that product should it please me. That is the only relationship we will ever have and we owe each other nothing. The old days are over and I say good riddance. I much prefer making a few calls after doing a little reading and getting the best possible price without the fuss. Why anyone would deal with lot lizards playing the four square game and all that crap any more is beyond me.
