Possible Bad Seal? Pictures Included.

Hi All,

Recently spotted some fluid buildup on the rear corner of my gas tank... crawled under and it appears the differential pinion seal may be leaking. How bad is this?

Thanks,

James

Certainly looks like the pinion seal from the pictures.

I would check the diff to see how much fluid you have lost - gear oil always looks worse than it actually is!

Once you get an idea of how much you have lost, you can tell how quickly you need to get it repaired.

Should cost around $200 from a reputable shop to replace the seal properly.

You'll want to make sure that they torque the pinion nut properly after completing the repair.

That isn't bad. I've got a leaky crank seal and slight exhaust leak (probably manifolds). I just crossed 103k miles. Not surprised I'm seeing these leaks. It is about time.

Replaced mine my self, took 1.5 hours you'll need to mark flange and get a good tourqe wrench

I had mine replaced for $150 at a local shop at 95k. Your pics look exactly like mine did at first. The spray just becomes more and more radial from the spinning shaft.

Sounds right. I noticed what looked like sweat on the pumpkin, then a month later I see this. It is going in next week. Needs a crank seal, pinion seal, and has an exhaust leak.
