I find the V1 arrows invaluable. Outstanding customer service, too. Products generally upgradeable.

I know this isn't one of your choices, but I had a k40 electronics a few years ago, and that thing saved my ass more than once (or more than 12 times).

Just another option for ya to think about.

The V1 arrows are as JWS said, invaluable. I have been using a V1 for 12 years without any issues...or tickets. The arrows give you the ability to see where the radar is coming from and make your own decision as to how you respond.

Might I suggest the "redline" from Passport...no GPS, doulbes the range on radar. I love it...and to date haven't needed the arrows, just need to know activity.

K40 radar detector and laser jammer speeding ticket guarantee | K40 Electronics

Per my prior post, I forgot one of my favorite "benefits". They actually pay for the speeding ticket if you get one. Obviously this won't include insurance increase, but the actual out of pocket for the ticket is covered.

Not a bad perk if you ask me.

Never had a Valentine, and of course I rarely hear bad things about it. I imagine that the arrows would be useful for some people. I on the other hand find the GPS feature of my 9500ix to meet my needs perfectly. Fewer false alarms means that when the detector DOES go off, it means business.

If Valentine ever gets GPS or if Escort gets arrows, then we'll have the ultimate detector in my opinion. Until then, it's just a matter of personal preference as each detector does what it's designed to do VERY well.

The only caveat I can think of is I don't know much about the Max. If its performance is like the 9500ix (or better) then I say it's still a toss-up.

Not familiar with the maxs yet but I love my 9590ix. And the passport forum is awesome!

I have been a V1 user for 10+ years and will probably upgrade my unit in the next year.

Between the arrows, # of alerts indicator and the strength meter, you get a great feel of what is happening by the way your V1 acts. Their website does a good job of walking you through some examples.

Another factor to consider is that the Escort has subscription fees for a lot of their exclusive features.

I am obviously a fan of the V1, but 10+ years of ticket-free driving will do that to you.
