Bargaining for an EcoDiesel

First post and just wanted to start off by saying I currently own a 2013 wrangler sport lifted on 37's, winch, rock rails, gears, etc. Anyways my other half has a 2011 Mini Cooper S and its time to get rid of it for something a little more practical for new England winters. last week we went to Quirk jeep here in Marshfield MA. we drove a 2014 Grand Cherokee Overland, fully loaded, technology group etc. sticker on it was $51,350. The only problem was that it had the hemi and we are in the market for the new diesel. Before even attempting to negotiate the salesman knocked off $4000. Long story short we passed on that and went to Jeep 24 in Brockton MA (this is where I just purchased my 2013 wrangler). Spoke with the same sales guy who sold me my wrangler and told him we wanted a loaded overland just like the one we drove in Marshfield EXCEPT we wanted it with a diesel. I figured he'd cut us a better deal then the other dealership being a return customer, but we were wrong. He checked the incoming inventory and what would you know they already had the exact overland that we wanted in a diesel that was supposed to arrive at the dealership sometime in late October. The sticker price on the diesel was $53,000. The salesman told me that he could not take a single dollar off of the car because the Jeep did not have a VIN # yet. He tried telling me that he didn't know what the invoice on the car would be yet so he couldn't take any money off of it. I told him that was bull**** and all he had to do was take the same Jeep and just add the 4200$ diesel package. He did not want to play ball or give me any sort of break so we walked out very unhappy. My question is, for those of you who have ordered new Grand Cherokee diesels did you get any money off? or did you pay the sticker price from the dealership? I plan on going back to the first dealership and seeing what they can do for me, at the same time I absolutely refuse to pay anywhere near the sticker price of a new car. I never have and never will, so hopefully I can find something that works.
sorry for the long post and I appreciate any help or insight.

Could you elaborate on how you were able to do that?

yes I am also curious, I've talked to 2 dealerships now and both have told me they can't give me a price or talk numbers until they know what the invoice will be on the jeep. They are claiming that they dont know what the invoice price will be until the jeep is built.

The dealers are BSing you. I got 52K on a diesel Summit (57K MSRP) just by going through TrueCar (I'm in NYC). My first quote was 53K just by requesting an online price from a dealer in Manhattan.

Honestly I figured they were BSing, I was still curious though. What dealer in NYC did you go through?

I used the USAA certificate for 52K for a 4x4 Summit EcoDiesel at Ziegler in Downers Grove IL (Outside Chicago). There were three dealers that would have taken the same offer in Chicago. Good luck with your purchase.

Invoice is published information. This site has had invoice up on diesel since January. Should be pretty easy to get invoice or little better. Affiliate pricing is guaranteed 1% below invoice, that is available from many corporate HR departments as free benefit to employees or can join some groups like tread lightly to get it.

Re: Bargaining for an EcoDiesel

I wrote out a generic email stating the EXACT vehicle I wanted to order (all options, colors, etc) and stated I wanted to order it from the factory ASAP. I then went to about 10 local dealership websites and submitted it on their "Contact Us" page. Over the next day I spent a few hours responding to the emails asking how far below invoice they could go. I then got the lowest few, or the guys who said they would "beat anybody else", and just went back and forth with my best offer seeing who could beat it. I got down to 4% below invoice with a dealership an hour from my house in Columbus Ohio.

I do have to add to this that I work at a supplier so I started at 1% below invoice regardless... but I think nearly anybody should be able to do 1->2% below invoice.

Look at the DC group buy. That dealer is giving 7% off invoice (including CRDs). I used that as my bargaining chip here in the Chicago area. I was able to get 5.5% off of invoice. If none of the dealers here had come close, I was prepared to fly into DC and drive the GC CRD home.
