For the dogs...cargo area height?

Hey all. I'm very seriously considering purchasing a 2014 GJC and wanted to know if anyone had experience with dogs in the back with the seats folded down? When I test drove, I noticed that the tops of the rear seats fold directly onto the bottom rather than the bottoms lifting up and the tops folding down. This leads to the seats not folding down completely flat. I have two greyhounds and they are relatively tall -- worried that their heads will constantly be grazing the headliner because of the way the seats fold. Any feedback would be great.

Thanks!

They fold completely flat.

Hmm...either our definition of "flat" is different or the vehicle I looked at was faulty.

There is a slight angle but we usually keep our rottie and Australian shepherd in the rear area.... I think the clearance would still be fine further forward.

They fold in almost exactly flat from what I remember. My 2010 it slopes upwards slightly toward the front seats.

Also,

if you bring a blanket in to cover the interior I'm sure a dealer would let you "test it out" and let you put the dogs in there to see first hand. If not just tell'em you'll buy from someone else.

The seats do fold down with a bit of an angle. I have a Retriever/Australian Shepard (@60lbs) mix who stands fairly tall as she is all legs and her head gets close to the ceiling when standing on the folded down seats. I'm also familiar with greyhounds as well. If your greyhounds settle down good for rides then you shouldn't have an issue. If however they like to pace or when they get in then their head room might be a bit limited. The best way to know is bring a blanket to the dealer and let the dogs check it out. There is plenty of room for them to stretch out so if headroom is acceptable then I'm sure they will love it!!!!

Very helpful! Thank you! They do tend to lay down after 10 minutes or so, so it shouldn't be a huge deal. I just wish the seats did fold completely flat! I'll be ordering my GJC today! On a side note, given that you use yours to tote your pup around, have you bought any sort of cover or mat to protect the rear interior?

Guess you're right, I honestly never noticed. if looking at the seats from the outside with the doors open, you can see an incline. From the inside, I never noticed it whatsoever.

The Touareg I looked at was terrible...not even close to flat.

My German Shorthaired Pointer is 48 pounds, very leggy, and is comfortable in the back. That's where she stays though...only have one dog for now, so the back is plenty of room for just her.

And look how much she loves my leather :)

I do have a cover (sorry don't remember brand) that I picked up at the local pet store to put in the back seat when it is not folded down. When it is down a nice flat dog bed (think lambs wool covered egg crate) is nice for padding on their legs as the cargo slides might be a bit uncomfortable.

well this won't help with the folded seat height but overall height maybe.

We put our 95lb GSD in the back without the seats folded down and he's fine. He usually lays down or just sits there. I have a weather tech mat in the trunk in case he gets sick or is all wet.
