2014 GC CEL Misfire

Hello,

I am new to the Jeep community and unfortunately have to make a post regarding a check engine light. On this past Saturday I started my car at 7am and noticed a CEL. Luckily the dealership that I Leased the Jeep at was open at 7:30. I arrive and let the service department know that the light is on and also that the car felt sluggish almost like it was misfiring. He said that this is very common on the 2014 GC and are having to repair the same issue about 5 times a week. He said that he would go for a reset as this would correct the issue and never come back about 40% of the time. If it does come back to call and will schedule a day to have the issue resolved. Well I just started my car tonight about 30 min ago and the CEL is back and car is sluggish again. Looks like i'll be calling them in the am. Has anyone heard of this supposed common problem? I searched the site and do not seem to see this issue with anyone else, which makes me a little nervous.

3 Year Lease (March 2013)

Thanks so much

he lied to you...if it was common...we would see it here. V6 or V8?

Hotmilk 09-03-2013 11:05 PM

Ugh!!! He said they are doing 5 a week.

V6

Thanks

di they list the code on the service sheet?

Hotmilk 09-03-2013 11:13 PM

They mail the service sheet after service. So since it was just there on Saturday and with the holiday on Monday, I will probably get it Thursday or Friday. Now that light is back on it will be going back.

impossible to know without the codes

Hotmilk 09-04-2013 12:05 AM

I just ran the code and found P0456 Evap emissions control system leak very small. I checked the TSB and found TSB#18-034-13 on 8/15/13 Flash: MIL illumination P0456-evap system small leak (3.6l. 5.7l).

I'm wondering if they performed that update on Saturday 8/31/13 and if they did why the light would come back on

I'm confused... You said in your first post it was a misfire and then in this last one a code for an Evap leak? If he said they are doing 5 a week it sounds like they might have been referring to the heads on 11 and 12 models, but that has nothing to do with your issue on a 14.

Hotmilk 09-04-2013 02:22 AM

I'm just as confused but he did mention something about the heads but not sure as to why he would have said that since I have a 14. I ran the code myself this time and found the evap code. Maybe he was confused on what car I was describing because it was very busy at the time.

Would this evap code cause power loss though?

It's all under warranty so only thing it's causing me is time, but would like to know it is in fact common and that I didn't receive a lemon

I am aware of the TSB but I would hardly call it "Common" and sure he is doing 5 a week if he is servicing over 100 2014 JGCs per week!.

It is a programming update and never did the instructions include a simple reset first. The TSB says that if the condition is reported to load the new PCM software.... TMK this is a False Positive situation as it applies to both the V6 and V8.

So to relieve you of any other worry, I don't think this is "Lemon" territory but rather just a simple programming issue. Just disappointing you needed to go back multiple times when the TSB says to just reprogram.

If each customer has to come back multiple times, and they count each visit to come up with 5 a week ... maybe they are being honest. Fuzzy math and all that. :)

didn't think of that Bill !

That gives all new meaning to a "make work project" considering they won't get paid on the reset light claims if they keep doing that AND it takes only 2 or 3 minutes longer to do the actual proper repair.

Crazy
