4 months of pure joy
1 Attachment(s)
Been following the forum for sometime, and decided to become a member as I've benefited the great resource. Just now getting time to post up my $0.02 (or less) on the new ride, I'm sure some of this is repetitive to others, but if it helps a future buyer, I did my job. Sorry this long, but now you are warned.

For anyone out there considering a performance SUV - after having the '14 Jeep SRT I would highly recommend it! The past 4 months have been pure joy and driving pleasure. :D I know there are lemons in every lot, but knock on wood it seems like Chrysler has really put some fit and finish into this machine

Here is a brief recap

Previous rides included a '06 GTO, a 335xi, and an old trailblazer. After waiting way to long to get a new car, when the 8 speed SRT was coming out, I said, "yeah that looks like it will fit the bill". Requirements were
- All wheel drive
- ability to be a 'professional business car' (I often have to pick up business persons and colleagues and shoehorning them into the back of a coupe is not a very good first impression
- 0-60 in 5 sec or less
- a V8 rumble

Test drove the S6 and Taurus SHO (no v8 - but decent ride) - and while good just not the best. Considered a CTS-V - but need a decent winter daily driver.

The SRT hits all the right notes. Could it be better - sure, the seats need adjustable side bolsters, the 8 speed shifter could be better looking, and the back seat a little more room, but nothing is perfect. And considering the competition is 20-30K more - it is a heck of a deal. It is great to be driving and say - I want to be 'there' - and poof you are there - also great to know that if another driver decides to interfere with your plans you can stop 5300 lbs. on a dime.

Had an OK purchase experience (outside of Detroit) - got it fully loaded sans CD player and rear DVD off the lot in May. Save $1500 off list price and got free front tint so it worked. But still am annoyed by the car buying 'experience'...

Was worried about the early build date, but have had only two issues

- Dash plastic piece had a broken clip after a month (sun/heat made it buldge)
- EVAP sensor needed to be replaced

The other issue were the local barney fife's - got pulled over 3 times not for speeding (thank you valentine!) - but because they saw me around and wanted to 'get a closer look' at the car. The 20% tint didn't help (but never got a ticket mind you) - so I went back to 50%. Since then no issues

I followed the forum and did the trans reset (i.e. disconnect the battery); updated the 8.4 nav a couple of times; and have had no issues

However, I will say, occasionally the Nav doesn't boot up right and acts 'weird' - but it does go away with a restart - hope another update is coming.

The remote access/Uconnect is awesome. As I fly a lot nothing better than having the car cooled (or heated) and ready to go once you land.

I added a BT catch can and two different intakes. Started with the Hennessy - but it ran WAY too hot... so again after reading, I tried the InJen - and it runs no more than 20 degrees above ambient. Recommend the InJen. However, if anyone wants a Hennessy PM me - you will get a heck of a deal

After putting on the InJen went out to the 'farm track' and pulled a 4.1 0-60 and 13.1 quarter... Freakin' amazing. Consistently hit 4.2 and 4.3 in this thing. I have 5000 miles on it and it really seems to be settled in.

The only 'complaint' I have at present is the silver around the grill and the MPGs.

I really wanted another color, but with the black 'grill' I said black was the best option, but all that silver up front needs to go. Planning to have black vinyl coated or painted or whatever the shop recommends to make it all blend together. I debadged it the other day and will only keep the silver trim around the windows.

As far MPGs - the injen is better than the hennesey and am around 13MPG (nearly all my driving is local city stoplight stuff during the week - no highway) - but it does not seem like "eco" mode does very good in town... also the slight 'drone' in "eco" mode on the highway is slightly annoying, looking at a corsa exhaust which may help that. I will say, it is possible the low MPG could be due to the nut behind the wheel - it is very hard not to enjoy the power when the roads allow (or you really want to get around somone).

Original pic attached - will post more as things develop, but just wanted to thank the forum for its help and info and put out a  for the '14 Jeep SRT

I know there are faster, more expensive, more luxurious rides everyday - and while this may not be the 'ultimate driving machine' - it is "my ultimate Driving pleasure"

Re: 4 months of pure joy
I dont think I could love driving my SRT anymore. With the Jeep emblem off the front and grand cherokee off the side, no one has any clue what it is. My friends are always laughing, reading peoples lips saying "wow what is that?" I am impatient and jumped the gun on the first SRT I saw on the lot and was told it was the only white one in the state at the time. If I were to order one today I would either do the red line (it wasn't available for order when I got mine), or I would get the sepia interior in mine- I think it looks really damn good. I just need to stop looking at Scotts red line and I will be more happy with mine lol. Welcome to the club though. This forum is awesome and everyone is legit, this has turned into my new facebook which is much better haha.

You make the right choice Tom. Your car is amazing. Don't waste your time wishing about that interior or any other option that wasn't available at the time, enjoy your beast.

Hehe. The sepia only looks good on the white. IMHO.

Great writeup, lillyjas. I've been looking for a reason to pull the trigger on a '14 and this about does it. Thanks for sharing!
