Humming when in Reverse?

Noticed today that when I put the 14 GC in reverse that a deep humming sound comes from the front. Its more noticible when I slowly reverse the car. Any idea what it could be?

Its normal on our cars. MANY of us have the same "squeal" or "moan".
Dont stress it.

Engine, type of transfer case, quadralift or not, might help.

I get no such noise, even in a quiet garage where I can hear the slightest little tick or groan with qdrive, qlift, v8.

3.6 v6, QT1, no quadlift. Also noticed a clunk sound on every startup.

Since you can't see out the back that is to warn the height impaired to get out of the way.

 Gotta love jeep engineering

Yep. The moan is normal for the v6. My 2014 v6 jeep doesn't seem to do it, but our 2013 town and country does. Checked some other forums, and it just seems to be a characteristic of the pentastar. Nothing to worry about.

I had a Toyota highlander 3.5v6 that had a loud rumble and vibration when cold. That was annoying, but considered normal.

The Pentastar v6 really is a nice engine. Good power, fuel economy. and almost no vibration. Plus, it has a really nice deep sound under load.

Re: Humming when in Reverse?

already on my second 2014. First one didn't do this, second one hums in reverse when on slight incline or slightly turning. Sounds like drive shaft rubbing on something.
