2014 Jeep Cherokee musters 22 MPG city, 31 highway - Autoblog

The fuel economy is finalized! Glad I ordered the V6! Crazy what 9 gears does for fuel economy. I would have though better city mileage though.

It's interesting how little impact the V-6 has on MPG. I think I will be happy with it.

Did not see what the traihawk will get.

According to the EPA's website, the Trailhawk is listed as the same MPG as the 4x4 Latitude and Limited.

Seems if you buy the V6 there is no MPG reason not to go 4WD.

I am curious if you get the Active Drive II system with 4WD Low if it will cause a big MPG loss the way Freedom Drive II in the Patriot/Compass does over Freedom Drive I?

With all the undercarriage protection on the trailhawk I'm surprised that extra weight dose not cause an mpg hit.

The extra weight would affect economy under acceleration (city) but not so much for highway. The skid plates, if they smooth out the undercarriage airflow, might actually help on the highway.

The additional 9 speed gearing in the city isn't much help other than to offer better acceleration. The acceleration of mass (work done) is the same moving the vehicle.

On the highway, the additional gearing allows lower rpm's and better economy without sacrificing acceleration in lower gears. With 9 speeds, there's an optimal gear for every speed to keep the engine at peak power for performance, or peak efficiency when cruising.

I'm impressed with Jeep's power train advancements!

The new 8-speed WK2 owners are very impressed. The V6 is delivering excellent economy and 0-60 times equal to last years Hemi!

There shouldn't be any mpg loss because of the way the drivetrain disconnects. That and the rotating mass isn't much higher with the 2 speed ptu and rdm.

Makes sense but I am leery of it due to the pretty significant MPG loss in FDI vs FDII. Different systems though I know.

I don't know about fuel economy being impressive. According to the EPA going from five to eight gears only increased fuel economy by 1 mpg. That does not me stand up and take notice. :(
