Aussie SRT Servicing

Ok, i have just over 2,000ks on the clock and want to change oil and filter, it's not a scheduled service so i will get my trusted mechanic to do it. I rang a few dealer service centres for pricing and oil type they use, i was surprised of the variances. Price ranging from $190.00 to $350.00, more concerning is the use of different oils, one dealer saying they use 10w-30, i mentioned that 0w-40 is recommended and he said it's a climatic thing....ha?. Can anyone from OZ confirm what oil they are using and there service experience, i will be using Mobil 1 0w-40.

Thanks

Probably best to post this as either a new question in this Aussie thread

http://www.jeepgarage.org/f97/aussie...ing-65231.html

Or as a new thread in the export section where most Aussies lurk.

Re: Aussie SRT Servicing

Hi

I initially had concerns with what my dealer was proposing - Castrol Edge 0W40.

I pointed out that the SRT Engineers only recommended the SRT Penzoil product - on a webchat on this forum they seemed to place particular importance on the PPM Moly (something to do with the Cam phasing). I went to the trouble of confirming with Castrol technical that their product in fact exceeded the recommended PPM Moly referred to by the SRT - though that information is not published widely.

As I understand it there is also a Mobil 0W40 readily available here in Oz - I haven't done any research on that one.

So whilst I am not an expert - the Castrol Edge 0W40 would appear to be an acceptable alternative to the Penzoil product.

As far as cost goes - it is not cheap here - I don't have a record of my last oil change - it is in the car - in getting the latest round of warranty issues fixed. However the oil is about $15/litre and we need 7 litres - so that is around $100 in oil plus labour, plus filter - from memory it was around the $220 mark

Do not accept anything other than 0W40.

As others have said insist on the 0-40 mate i went through the same thing with the wife's 300c (5.7 Hemi) tryin to find 5-20 "its a climate thing" half the people here seem to think the whole of US is snowing all year

I said to two of the auto shops "you have never been to florida or Texas or similar states have you" :slapfight:

I ended up using 5w-30 but i am looking at importing 5-20, anyway back to your issue i have seen the mobil1 0-40 @ s' cheap 5 ltrs approx $95  you should need 6.7 ltrs (7 Qts) i would imagine this would be fine, i am not a licensed mechanic but do all my own servicing even brand new under warranty and i would be happy to use this oil.

Gcgms, i agree, the climatic story is bull dust. It seems the incompetence i experienced in trying to purchase the car is now continuing afersales. I rang three different dealers, each quoted different oils and viscosity, different pricing, doubling in one case. For once, can't they just get it right. My last conversation was with the dealer i purchased the car from, i asked what they charge for a my14 SRT oil change, his reply after searching the system for about 3mins, "is that the 6.1 hemi":slapfight:. They ended up quoting $320, i asked if they price matched, the best they could do was $300, cheapest quote i got was $180, i said thanks for nothing. It's really not about the money, it's the service and competence, to which there is none. I have a trusted mechanic who is going to try and source Pennzoil ultra, if no luck, I'll get him to use Mobil1.

Apologies to our American amigos if this thread has no relevence.

It is VERY important to use the factory recommended oil in the 6.4L HEMI. The Cam phaser requires the proper oil viscosity and moly content. Also the 6.4L duty cycle drives the oil recomendation. Your should only use 0W-40 FULL SYNTHETIC oil in your SRT. SRT has worked very closely with Pennzoil to develop and certifiy Pennzoil Ultra 0W-40 in the 6.4L Hemi. Every SRT is filled from the factory with Penzoil Ultra 0W-40.

I agree, nothing but 0w-40 will go in mine. Unfortunately Pennzoils existence in oz is no longer, so I'm going with next best thing Mobil 1. I did find a dealer in the US selling SRT Pennzoil on ebay, well priced to, unfortunately no one is willing to ship.

Hey Scott, yes i did, no international shipping available unfortunately. Anyone in the US want to start a little export business, I'm sure there are many SRT owners here in OZ interested in doing business. Just to give you an idea, Mobil 1 0w-40 costs $95.00 per 5 litres.
