Transmission 2005 grand cherokee

I was driving and came to a stop sign, when I went to pull out my jeep wouldn't go, it was like it had gone in to neutral. I got it safely in a lot and put it in park and tried going thru the gears, and all it would do was rev up like in N again. Finally get it to go into gear and go get stopped again and it does the same thing. I got it towed to the shop he said there were 4 codes for the transmission that came up (NO I don't know what they were) besides one was an incorrect gear ratio. he reset them told me I could get it, I drove it about 10-15 miles around town and it did it again, so again I get it towed in 2 of the 4 codes came back one being the incorrect gear ratio.

I called the Chrysler Hot line to see if it was part of the May re-call but they said its not. But I know this is exactly what its doing inadvertently shifting into neutral.

The shop has done a re-flash update but it says it took in one place but in the other it doesn't give the info needed. They were supposed to do the update again today and I was told if this didn't take they didn't know what to tell me. The dealer here is awful to work with and I have tried to work with them on this after seeing the shop a week or so before because it was acting funny (leading up to this problem) They didn't want to help me saying that's not what it needed.

Which engine/transmission combination?
Was any maintenance done to the transmission lately? Without the exact fault codes it will not be easy to tell what is going on.
When it didn't went into gear, did you try reverse as well?

The recall does not apply in this case - it is for the transfer case shifting to neutral, not the transmission. The above poster is spot on -without codes it's going to be difficult to narrow things down (even with codes it's a guessing game without being able to see the vehicle).

Apart from checking fluid level and the linkage, there isn't much you can do without pulling codes and tearing things down.
