Jeep Compass Diesel P0016

Welcome all this is my first post

We are having trouble with a Jeep Compass Diesel 02/06 It came in as checking a noise in the turbo.
We found it had oil leaking into it and pulled the inlet hose from the rocker cover off.
The boys pulled off the rocker cover to check if the hose was blocked.
The engine was restarted and turned off again.
When the customer returned to pick up the car it would not start. We checked everything to see if something was dislodged or left off.
The we rang the guys at the diesel place to come over and check with their scan tools if something went wrong.
A code P0016 was detected, cleared but would not start. It was suggested after some time checking that we needed to make sure the timing of the cams and belt was correct.
We did that and everything looked Ok. We then decided to change the cam sensor, that was changed it still did not start. The vehicle was scanned again with the same code showing.
We then decided top change the crank sensor, it still wonít start.
We started rechecking everything, and was checking the crank sensor signal with the cam angle sensor disconnected and the vehicle fired up.
We plugged the cam sensor in again and it kept running,
We turned it off and tried to restart but no go. It will only start if the cam sensor is disconnected.
The same code is still there P0016 which says the cam timing is out, we canít find out why it saying that.
If you have anything you can help with this it would be very much appreciated.
Thanks
