iPod Classic Issues - Freezes, Dies

I've had my 120 GB iPod Classic now for several years. I've noticed ever since using it in my Jeep, it seems to freeze up an awful lot. Also, there will be times when I get into the Jeep and the iPod's battery is completely dead, even though it's still plugged into the USB port in the center console. Anyone else have similar issues with their '14?

I had a similar problem, but I don't feel it was because it wasn't charging. Mine was 5 years old and it's more likely that my battery was no longer able to be charged. I replaced it with a new 160 GB iPod and haven't had any problems since. I tried charging my 120 GB unit and it briefly displays a message stating to connect to power. Planned obsolescence....

I have not had the battery problem but other similar ones with freezing etc. If I recall lots of conversation here about difficulties with the iPod classic. I just live with it cause it is the only iPod big enough to hold all my music.

Same thing here....new 7th Gen Ipod Classic. Locks up sometimes, doesn't auto shutoff with the vehicle sometimes and the battery drains, etc. Luckily, a quick reset (hold menu and center button) fixes the lock-up issue. It is irritating though, especially when in the middle of road trip since it's not real easy to do the reset and drive at the same time. Hoping the next version of Uconnect magically fixes the issue...

FYI, it takes just a few minutes to replace the battery in these. Your local Batteries+ store can supply the battery and replacement kit. You can also get them on eBay. Not Jeep related, but a way to avoid "planned obsolescence".

I have had the same problem with the ipod classic cutting out and freezing during playback. I also had problems just getting the stereo to recognize that it is even plugged in. Not experiencing the battery/charging issue though. I also had several problems with the SD card slot not recognizing the card, and also showing duplicates of all of the files on the card. Took it to the dealer and they could not fix it, they replaced the stereo and it seems to have corrected the issues with the ipod, but unfortunately the problems still exist with the SD card.

Thanks for the awesome responses, everyone!! It appears I'm not alone, and barring any issues with my iPod's battery (it appears to be charging fine) it looks like most of the problems can be attributed to Uconnect.

On a positive note, the voice recognition feature works surprisingly well. I have over 9,000 songs and at 70 mph with all the windows down and the sunroof open, it usually picks up my voice extremely well.
