Hate to be a downer but, since you have a 4.7l its gonna cost a lot of money. You dont need a new transmission, and can reuse your 545rfe, which is not as strong as the nag1 but use it until it goes out and then buy a sharadon or ats diesel one. However since you have a 4.7l you are going to have to swap in an entire long block, manifold, and computer system. The long block and manifold will easily run you 12-14 thousand dollars, and then your computer harness will be around another 1000 dollars. If your tranny goes out thats another 2,000 dollars. To do this in a laredo is just not economical. If you had a hemi 5.7 it would have been an entirely different story, and you could just swap shorts. It would honestly be cheaper to trade it for a 5.7 and then swap it for a 6.1 or 6.4. I think thats a cheaper route than trading for an srt. Good luck.

or a cheaper alternative is to get a 5.7 block, and it will bolt up to a 545 trans

and the 5.7 parts are cheaper and easier to come by

4.7L are very expensive to build. I was in the process of building a 4.7L for my 99 WJ and just bought an SRT8 instead.

You can buy a 6.1 engine and trans for under 8000 from the same people I just bought a 3.7 from. Lkqonline.com

The 545rfe will bolt up to the 6.1 block. Physically the bolt patterns are the same it's just that the physical shape of the bellhousings are different. There are a lot of ram and jk guys using 6.1 blocks and using the 545rfe tranny. You don't need a new tranny

the question I think, isn't if it will bolt up, but rather how long will a 545 last with a 6.1 bolted to it? That is why I suggested the NAG1. It is a little more costly yes, but its a more efficient transmission with 17-20% driveline loss.

The 545rfe is rated for 500 ft lbs. The 6.1 is 70 ft lbs below that at peak power. It shouldn't be a problem, as long as you don't mess with the shift points. To swap a nag1 would be a lot of work, as the nag is a shorter transmission so the drive shafts would need to be changed as well. In addition the nag uses an integrated tcm so the electronic would need to be replaced and swapped with everything from an srt. Then the transfer case won't work because there isn't the software to run it so an srt transfer case would need to be swapped. That's like $8000 dollars to swap the transmission alone provided you find a salvage.
