New problems and an offer to have my truck bought back...

Talk about a good time to have car problems ... As of October 1st, I have lots and lots of free time in my life and no income...

New car problems - almost overnight. All documented on video and/or pictures.
  • Massive metal on metal grinding noise from the left rear tire, when placing the car in DRIVE or REVERSE and the car begins to move
  • Key fob not detected by the car. Scary noises.
  • Low beams and fog lights are on, in the middle of the day, with brilliant sunshine.
  • The SD card stopped working again. Well first time in October, I give it that, but in September it was every other day and in August I had my radio replaced.
The dealership put me straight into a rental. As I was waiting for the Enterprise driver, I approached the sales desk and inquired about the 2014 Cherokees. The guy behind the desk says No, and offers the friendly suggestion that the Grands are available...This ends up into a well-mannered open complaint session about the Grand Cherokee. The guy turned out to be the General Manager. He looked me up in the system and offered to buy back my truck and to put me in either an Overland or a Limited.

The problem is that I have a custom ordered Limited with ORA-II; Luxury and Advanced Packages. 7500 miles. It was custom ordered - so there's no way they'll find a matching Limited. In fact based on the discussions here on the boards, I think there are very few trucks like mine purchased by forum members. They were all exclusively ordered - none were sold from the lot, simply because most people wanting those features just step up to an Overland.

So...what should I be considering if I do go ahead and let them buy back and "upgrade" to a leather dashboard, puddle lights and electrically folding mirrors?

  • any payments already made on the car, including the down payment need to transfer over?
  • any remainder of the warranty (100,000 miles) needs to transfer over?
  • any invoice price that I pay should reflect the original discounted percent (4%) that I got on the car when I ordered?
What else? Or should I even do that? Should I have faith in the repairs?

What would my monthly payments increase by?

I would let them buy it back and get a new one if the numbers work for you and can get the options you want/need in another veh in a time frame that works. The GM may be able to set up a buy back but I doubt he will have his dealership do the actual buy back. That will be handled by the company that Chrysler uses (ISG?) to handle buy backs and that GM has no influence on those negotiations. Good luck!

Not trying to be a jerk...but how wil you be able to pay for another vehicle with no income? Chrysler will approve you for another loan?

Oh I am not really worried about that :-). In fact in the past hour I learned that I am to report to work tomorrow:confused:.
I am specifically worried about the car.

Sounds like you do not have all of the facts and details yet. If you wind up with a new car then it will have a new warranty and no miles. It all comes down to the delta cost and the options.

There is a Limited with exactly those specs in Houston, TX. I know because I ordered it and changed my mind and reordered the diesel. You did not mention engine and color, but the one I ordered was V6 Cashmere Pearl with black interior. It is a 2014.5, so it includes ACC with STOP, something yours probably did not have. The build date on it was late July. It also includes the Nav upgrade radio.

I will PM you the link to sticker and dealer info. The unit was still available earlier this week.

You are correct in statement of not many gas Limiteds ordered that way, but there were several diesel Limiteds with LuxII, ORAII, and Advanced tech group.

Hi Brianstormer,

I will probaly stick to my rig though.
I am curious about the statement regarding ACC with STOP:

Are you suggesting that now Active Cruise Control has the STOP feature (meaning it brings the car to a complete stop?) Mine had this feature, though NOT the STOP part ? How come we did not know about this? I just took a look at the sticker you provided and then I took a look at mine:

Mine - build April 2013
Quote:

OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT
Customer Preferred Package 23H
Advanced Technology Group $ 1,695
Adaptive Cruise Control
Forward Collision Warning with Mitigation
Advanced Brake Assist
Blind Spot and Rear Cross Path Detection
Automatically-Dimming Exterior
Passenger Mirror
The one that Brainstormer just PM'ed me - build late July

There is a difference, in that the words STOP and CRASH were added to the build sheet. But does that translate into a real difference on the road? I was not aware of the STOP feature actually working. I wonder if this is partially due to any UCONNECT updates? Maybe not...

__________

In regards to my truck, they found and corrected problems with the parking brake.
In addition, they added the following reflashes:
PCM 68172003AE to 68172003AI
DTCM from 05150732AC to 05150732AE
HVAC from 68110610AF to 68110610AJ

I have already had my PCM and Transmission re-flashes in August - those publicized on this website at least.

I was also told that they are waiting on a response from Chrysler on whether they would replace my radio (the second time) or to wait on a major imminent update.

Yes. ACC with stop actually stops the vehicle without driver intervention other than keeping your hands on steering wheel. Users have tested this and it works. This change is one reason the late July builds are now 2014.5.

Re: New problems and an offer to have my truck bought back...

Truly fully complete stop to 0 mph? Not down to just 15 mph? This might even improve on the Forward Collision Warning with CRASH mitigation feature...
I wonder what modules are different...Or software :-(
Anyways, I waste at least one hour daily on this site...and this is new to me. Including the 2014.5 designation.

Yep full complete stop, I drove home the other day with the ACC on on my new jeep and didn't touch the brake pedal until I pulled into the neighborhood

Yes, down to a complete stop and if traffic starts to move with in a second or so of the stop the Jeep will start to resume speed following the car in front of you. After the second or so if the car in front of you does not move you have to apply the brake. I have the stop feature and have tested it, so it is indeed stop and go .
