14' srt front plate nonsense

So, I live in a ridiculous state that requires a front plate to be displayed. My original plan was to install a motorized hidtheplate, to avoid having to drill into the bumper and install one of those hideous plate holders. Just got off the phone with the shop and they say, short of some serious fabrication to create a structure to mount the hidetheplate plate bracket, it really can't be done. Has anyone else installed a hidetheplate; or, has anyone in a state like mine found another work around? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I recall someone on here mentioning magnets. any luck with that?

This plate holder will no doubt work for the SRT. I have purchased from Craig before for my Shelby's and I have been speaking with him about my new SRT. He is a nice guy and has a nice product.

Re: 14' srt front plate nonsense

Thanks for the reply, YFD. I found a couple bmw audi forum posts where heavy duty magnets were used. I think i'm going to epoxy 6 (3 top, 3 bottom) 20lb disc magnets in the OEM plate holder and then on the inside of the bumper where it would be drilled in. Have to order the magnets online, though. Now I have to figure out a way to get around the inspection process. Maybe twist tie it on for the inspection and take it off when I leave lol.

Here's what it really comes down to though. If your going to paste, glue, drill or whatever the plate. If your going to put it on in any way then it really doesn't matter when it comes down to it that you drill it or not because your never going to take it off and you will only realize the plate has been drilled after years of driving and depreciation. And when you sell it 99% of people could care less that it's been drilled. To be honest I think epoxy is worse. It's not a rare show car and is never going to be worth more money because it's not drilled. Unless you don't like the position of the stock spot.

lol no, I know. I just hate front plates. I want to be able to remove it and drive around. If I get stopped, I can apologize, say I forgot to put it back in place, and magnet that ish back on, hopefully avoiding the citation. Plus, it has to be there to pass inspections. That's why I wanted the motorized plate, so I could hit the button when needed. it is what is, unfortunately.

Couldn't agree more with you, YFD. I'll be tapping the bumper in a few weeks as soon as my plates get in.

Front plates stink, but giving LEOs another reason to pull us over is worse IMO. Like you, this is a daily driver for me so in a few years and tens of thousands of miles later, I seriously doubt it'll matter.

After looking at this bumper with the 2 factory pilot holes in the bumper I must say I think it looks like crap. Looks like the bumper has 2 rock chips and I'm not the only person to think so. So.... I will be installing the factory plate tomorrow. If those guide holes were much smaller, my decision would be harder. Plus it's a ticking time bomb to get pulled over, even though i most likely wouldn't get a ticket anyway but who needs the aggravation!

 Noooooooooooooooo... lol j/k  to each their own.

I ordered the magnets, yesterday. I'm going to try to do an install thread on here after, for anyone interested. Luckily for me, most of driving is done around towns within my Court's jurisdiction; so, it's not likely I'll get the $35 citation, anyway. Really only need it for inspection purposes.

Problem is the dimples look as stupid as the plate! Plus I look at it as saving some rock chips. I already had one rock chip where the plate would be. If I had it on I wouldn't have it right now.

I will be getting my srt in a couple of weeks and purchased a exta front plate holder 16.80 with shipping. I am going to get it painted White to match the srt. This will hold down the contrast of the plate unless you have a black GC. Should be less than 60.00. I will post pictures as soon as I get it installed.

Isn't it cheaper for the government to get rid of the front plate, here in Canada Regina Saskatchewan they got rid of the front plate because it cost the tax payer too much money to have them,I don't think the police like it,but the government did it anyway, it make sense.
