Falling Out of Love with My 2014 Grand Cherokee

I am fed up with the unrefined & rough shifting 8 speed transmission in my 2014 Limited V6 4x4. Since driving it off the lot, I've had issues with it banging into the lower gears when downshifting, not downshifting when taking my foot off the gas, hesitation finding a gear when merging onto the highway, and now after the latest reflash, on cold morning starts it stays in 1st gear too long and over revs.

I've owned my fair share of automatics over the years, and the transmission in my 2014 Grand Cherokee is by far the worst. I'm at the point now that I'm actually considering getting rid of this thing while it's still worth some money because all I'm conscience of when driving it is the POS transmission. Thank God I didn't pay $2,000 for an extended warranty, or worse...have spent the extra money on an Overland.

Really, why should I keep this thing? In addition to the tranmission problems, I've also had to deal with:

1) ABS module replacement (light came on when driving it off the lot)

2) Tire vibration at 60 to 80 mph (tires balanced & rotated recently)

3) Still have clunking in the rear suspension when going over bumps

4) 8.4A freeze ups (latest reflash has helped)

5) Useless outside temperature reading

$40,000 for what...the hassel of taking it back to the dealership multiple times...and it's not even 6 months old! I hate to say it people but this was my first Chrysler vehicle, and it will be my last Chrysler vehicle. And I'm not even going to get into the absolute worthless Customer Service at Chrysler...I've had better dealings with outsourced customer service from India! Unfortuately my ownership experience with my Jeep has now turned toxic. I regulary tell my friends, family, and co-workers to stay clear of the 2014 GC, as well give it poor ratings everytime I get a Chrysler survey email.

Sorry everyone, but I feel duped having bought this Jeep, and it's taking WAY too long for Chrysler to come up with a fix for the 8 speed transmission.

Chrysler products have been close to - or dead last in Consumer Reports reliability rankings for the past 30 years. It looks like nothing has changed.

I am in the same boat as you are GCL.
I do not mind giving second chances but this is getting crazy.

Had mine re-flashed yesterday and all is well today... but for how long?

I must admit their are days that I am sorry I traded my 2002 Avalanche in for the GC.

I will still holdout hope that Jeep will get their act together and these problems will all be fixed.

GCLimited, sorry to hear about your troubles. I too have had issues with my 2013. I'm on the fence...to sell or buy the lifetime warranty.

Out of curiosity, do you have a replacement car/SUV in mind?

GC, I agree with your decision based on your experience with your veh. I wouldn't put up with it either.:slapfight:

No, not yet. That's the main reason I'm still in this 2014 GC, plus a little part of me is holding out hope for a fix from Chrysler. Hope is fading fast though.

X5 is too much money...the X3 is a chick car, so's the smaller Audi SUV. I won't touch anything from GM, and I'm not too keen on the Ford Explorer, Edge or Escape. The only Nissan I'd consider is another Xterra if they redesigned it (and gave it a diesel), and the 4 Runner looks like crap.

I hate to say it, but if gas stays below $4.00 a gallon, I may opted for a full size pickup...maybe the new F-150 when it comes out...with the EcoBoost.

Suggestion: Volvo XC60 (3.2 AWD). Our 2011 has been an excellent experience. Zero issues.

Man, whenever I read these threads, it makes me realize how lucky I am my truck is nearly entirely problem-free in 8300+ miles... <knocking on wood!>

Re: Falling Out of Love with My 2014 Grand Cherokee

I'm satisfied with my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland, but I am annoyed with the buggy controls (version 13.09.0) for radio and navigation. The engine, transmission and air suspension seem to work properly. When my Jeep gets a new anti-lock brake module, I will ask the dealer to update all firmware. If the Jeep is persistently unreliable, then I'll use my state's lemon law against Chrysler and I'll buy a 2014 Subaru.

GCL,

You listed these as problems;

Once you realize that what you are calling problems aren't problems you'll love the Jeep. And, I'll bet I can find a dozen service managers that will confirm that all those items are normal on a 2014 GC.

Seriously, let us know what you replace it with. Best of luck!

Re: Falling Out of Love with My 2014 Grand Cherokee

GCL, I'm right there with you. I've had the first contact with the buyback group from Chrysler, ISG. The only difference is I'm still inclined to give them one more shot (my first chrysler product too after a few Acuras with zero problems) and get one built after July. People that I tell that to think I'm crazy for wanting another one, but I love the look and feel of the car when it is working and with me. Those times seem few and far between.

I've noticed that a lot of people don't have a problem with the V8 transmission. I'm wondering if the gas mileage wont be THAT much of an issue with it if I got one of those? I'm at a loss, though. I feel your pain.

 Not sure I understand your logic. Lots of people do have trouble with the V8 trans and lots of people don't have any trouble with the V6 trans.
