Check Gauges Light/Low Oil Pressure

I have a 2000 JGC with 4.0 engine 117K miles and I keep getting the "check guages" light and low oil pressure. When cold the oil pressure goes up to about what would be 50-60 then as the engine warms drops to 40 and stays. During deceleration it will fall to almost 0. When I pull up to a light or make a stop it will fall to 0 and the "check guages" light will come on. I changed the oil pressure switch with a Standard Motor Parts switch thinking it would fix the problem. But no still have the same issues. I've read here that only OEM parts will fix this; is this true? I don't want to buy and install another switch and not get this fixed. Engine runs great with no strange noises Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe best to get the oil pressure measured with an external gauge, just to be sure that its the indication. Eventhough cam and crank sensors better be original mopar, i never heard this regarding the oil pressure sending unit. ( doesn´t say it can not be the case ofcourse) Especially when the old sending unit indicated the same as the new unit, i would verify the actual pressure first.

I went through this with my '04 shortly after I picked it up. I replaced the factory unit with a piece from Napa and have not experienced any problems. There is a difference between the '04 piece and earlier units but I would not expect that to change anything.

The 04 only has a low pressure switch, the indicator indicates 0 or a fixed high pressure. Before 04 models have a pressure sending unit, which shows the actual pressure.
