2014 Motor Trend SUVOTY

The results are in for the Motor Trend SUV of the year. The 2014 GC and Duurango were in the running but came up short. Their ultimate choice was a 'no brainer.'

Contenders

Winner

Wow! The forester!
I can't believe the forester beat out the jeep and durango.
The forester is a decent suv, I actually test drove one, but it's no
jeep...:)

It would have been SUV of the year if not for the electrical, and navigation system problems that plagued the 2014 GC.

Yea, but the forester hasn't really changed for some time, but Jeep decided to be bold and make top to bottom changes. Sure a few problems here and there, but this is the first year with these minor bugs.

What about appearance. That thing looks like a lunch box driving down the road..

Not a fan.

Very nice. We finally get some real numbers for all drivetrains. That little Audi puts down some nice times. The WKs look much better with the 8 spd.

I totally do not understand their criticism of the GC road manners. I think my Overland is a perfect blend of ride firmness, damping, and body roll for a vehicle of its size. In that regard, I can't imagine anything better.

Here's Reynolds' quote on the $70K SRT: "Who in the world would buy this? In what world is this a rational car-buying choice? It makes no sense at all." Makes a lot more sense than the $100K+ Porsche, Mercedes, and BMW SUVs your little rag consistently raves about, Mr. Reynolds.

I have friends that have driven nothing but Subaru's for years. They have a new Forester, and it's a really nice vehicle. We've gone on a few short trips in it. I have to say, though, that when I get back in my JGC, it's no contest for me. Love my Jeep! :D

That's exactly what I was thinking. It will hang with any of them that cost twice that.

Subies are solid vehicles and there are many here in CO for good reason.

That said, this award is supposedly for SUVOT, not CUVOY.

Sorry, but any SUV that can only tow 1500 lbs is not truly a SUV in my book.

Re: 2014 Motor Trend SUVOTY

Since when is Forester a SUV? I always thought of them as a tall wagon.
My brother-in-law has one of them Subarus and I hate the CVT on it. Seriously... i hate it. Low end (slow speed) is good torque but at highway speeds, if I need to pass someone, it takes time for the power to catch up. Also drove a Nissan something car as a rental few months ago with CVT and it sucked too.

I guess, for the price, it is not a bad vehicle. Besides, those Subaru Foresters can take on the Black Bear Pass with ease. :) Don't believe me? Google it...

Cheers,
-A
